Any Improvement?

Like Graybeard® I have sung the praises of Taurus® Revolvers for years. I had the opportunity to work in one of the largest Gun Stores from Olympia, Wa to the Oregon border. I still help out there a lot.

I wasn't too impressed with their small semi-autos; PT 22/25 & PT 111 and the like. Their revolvers on the other hand were fabulous. Like GB I felt they beat S&W® dollar for dollar & feature for feature. (For the S&W® alignment with the Klinton administration they can wither & die for all I care). My latest Taurus® is a Mdl 617SS I received as a birthday gift from my wife in May of last year. It's flawless in performance and highly accurate. Additionally I have a Mdl 669SSCP that's had 10K+ rounds through it that gets better & better with time. My Mdl 85's are like a Timex; "take a licking & keep on ticking".

On this board & others on GB I read about poor quality & workmanship. Additionally customer service is poor (from what I read). Now I haven't used their CS in about 16 mos but back then it was fast, courteous, & reliable. What has or has not happened?

What are your guys take on this please?

My opinion ONLY.

I think Taurus got too big for it's breeches. As a result of the S&W agreement with the devil they started getting so much business they couldn't produce guns fast enough and keep quality high. They had to make a decision to put out more guns faster and with lower quality or lose sales for lack of guns out there. They chose to put them out and to heck with quality.

So many of them came back it swamped the repair department and customer service and so that came up lacking.

That's my theory.

GB:

Your theory certainly makes sense to me. Have you observed this lack of quality control across the board; or, only with certain models? My 85's were made in 94, & 97. The 669 in 96 ; & the 617 in 02.

I don't know fellas, I'm a guy with little handgun experience.  I purchased a taurus tracker in .22LR 6" (actually traded a Glock mod.23 in for it), and I'd have to say I'm impressed with the quality of this little revolver.  Me and my boys have only put a few hundred rounds through it but so far, so good.  Everything on the revolver is tight and all parts seem to match up perfectly.  Having such little exp. with this type of firearm, I'd have to say my opinion is pretty much unbiased.  I'd recommend a Taurus revolver to anyone.  Just my two-cents.  Regards, Ambush

There doesn't seem to be too many folks reporting problems with the Raging Bulls so I assume they maybe immune to the problems but am not sure. My two are excellent guns.

But I've been hearing of problems across the product line except for the RBs a lot lately. My last two purchases were a Model 44 and a Model 460. Both had major problems and required replacement with new guns. The second, the M460 replacement is much better but really the barrel on it should be replaced. But after the problems I've had with their Customer Service on these two I'll just live with it if I can get it to shoot and trade it if not.

I haven't heard too many people complaining about Taurus' lately and have no functional complaints about my Tracker. Only complaint about it is the trigger could have been smoother, but it is still nice for a production pistol. Either it has started to happen or it will hapen shortly that Taurus will me forced to clean up their act. A lot of people stopped buying Taurus' because of the reported problems, to gain popularity they would be forced to get the QC taken care of. Like I said either this has started to happen or it will happen soon and then Taurus will be producing very good guns again.

I`ve got a RB and love it. BUT, was talking to a friend of mine today that had a .45 LC that the cylinder would turn backwards when cocked. He sent it back to be fixed and came back with a new cylinder, BUT, it was chambered in .45 APC. What are they doing there anyway???????????
