A FRIEND OF MINE WANTS TO PUT THIS ROUND IN HIS STAINLESS #1-B 300 WIN.MAG.HOW MUCH WORK IS HE LOOKING AT,AND HAS ANYONE TRIED THIS ROUND.DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT CASING THEY USE FOR THIS ROUND. ITS NOT ON THERE WEB SITE. THANKS

Dave,
It's Name is 7.82 "Warbird" not battlestar. The brass is propritary from Lazzeroni only so far(Midway sells it also). It can't be easly made from any other brass other than maybe .416 Rigby which costs as much or more than the Lazzeroni's. They take an RCBS #19 shellholder same as the .460 Wby. Conversion of a Ruger #1 would be OK but the extractor needs to be opened up to fit the larger rim dia. The only drawback to this conversion would be the recoil with the #1's droopy buttstock. when you put a thumper in a #1 it really thumps! Best load so far has been 104 gr. RL25 165 gr. Barnes XLC W/fed 215 pri. bullet seated .050 off the lands. Cronographed vel. avg. 3860 fps

Actually Dave, there is supposed to be a 7.82 Battlestar coming out mid-year.   Allegedly 150 gr. bullet @ 4000 fps.

Do a search on "Google" and you'll turn up a few references and speculations about the case it is based on.

Before you get all hot and heavy over the
peperoni cartridges, look at the pressures they use to get those velocities.    If you notice, they do not publish these and independent labs have found them to be in the 70,000 pluss range.    This is not conducive to long barrel life, rifle life, or when chambered in the wrong gun your life.
    Now look in your loading book at the .300 Win Mag, check the pressures, not if we increase them 20,000 PSI we too can get super velocities.

THE BATTLE STAR NEVER LEFT THE GROUND, EVERYONES REFRENCE POINTS ARE TO THE ARTICLE IN THE 93 GUNS AND AMMO.  THIS IS FOR THE WARBIRD.  I HAVE ONE IN THE LAZZERONI/SAKO CONVERSION.  I AM SHOOTING SWIFT BULLETS IN THE 165 GRAIN.  I WILL BE SWITCHING TO THE NEW BARNES MRX WHEN THEY ARRIVE.

There was mention of the battlestar several years ago, and hitting 4000ft/sec with a 150 grain bullet. The Lazzeroni company, when asked about it, wasn't sure they were going to make it, even on a custom basis. I believe they have since scrapped it all together.

Hmmm seems that the "Ideal" rifle to build one of these on would be the Ross M-10 as it was designed for these sort of pressures and that was back on 1910  :o. Normal proof pressure for the .270 Win is 19 Tons the proof pressure on the .280 Ross was 28 Tons. Oh .303 British is 18.5 Tons
