Just curious to see how the new owners of this caliber like it. I have a 454 Raging Bull and wonder if maybe the 500 is just way more gun or not. Still like my Casull but ,can't help being curious as to wheter this should be considered in the big bore arsenal.

I had both the BFR in 500 MAG and S&W500. I sold my S&W500 and kept my BFR in 500MAG. It is an awesome round. A lot more recoil than the 454 Casull. But a blast to own. You won't be undergunned :grin:

I got one a couple of months ago and, so far, I like it. Most of the major bullet companies make bullets for it. It seems that the after-market parts came out a little quicker than they did for the 480 Ruger. A factory sales rep showed me the new 4" model a couple of days ago (actually a 3" barrel with a 1" comp.). The shorter barrel seems as though it would be easier to carry, but I'm not sure how it would effect performance. I think it's intended to be more of a DG self- defense weapon rather than a primary hunting gun.
With the cost of factory ammo it is, definitely, a handloaders gun. It's a handful to shoot, but not that much more than a 480 or 454.

I got mine last June, cast a 400gr. FPPB bullet for it, and got two
deer this past gun season with it.
It's a blast I love it.

What kind of scope mount and rings are those in the picture? Do they seem to be holding up OK?

They are from Weigand Combat Handguns, Integra-Mount system three rings. I took them off one of my 629's. They held up on the .44's and are holding up fine on the 500 so far. Probem is, I think they discontinued making them. I don't know why, I like them.

I've got both, the 454 is a sharper kick but not any more or less noticeably.I haven't tryed the 440 cor-bons yet though but I have shot a cylinder of 400gr. double action.It does pack a wallop!Try a 500 you'll like it.

I don't live in a town, but Chattanooga is about the closest place that anyone would recognize is near where I live. There are a lot of Hensley's around here, but I don't know any of them.
Although I've never been to NE Tn, near Virginia, I hear it's one of the prettier parts of the state. I guess I need to get out more :grin: .
After retirement, it seems like I have less time to do things than when I worked...go figure.

im new here but i thought i would chime in ,i like my 500 smith no problems at all and the ammo prices are still high they are droping fast now there are many factory loading ammo corbon, ultramax, hornady,buffalo bore and grizzly have shot all loads except the grizzly.this may be just me, but i think the 350 s from hornady have the most felt recoil.the 440 cast performance from ultra max ,penitration is awsome shot throug a 2 foot thick tree stump must see to belive i really do like mine and it is as tight as the day i got it thanks chris
