Are the Hogue rubber textured w/ aluminum bedding block stocks comparable to the sporter stocks offered by Mcmillan and HS in quality and performance? Jeff

McMillan is the best - period.  HS is very good, but not as good as the McMillan.  The HS is more porous than the McMillan, and thus not as strong.  I don't know much about the Hogue, so I can't really comment.

Another stock you may want to look into is the Medalist.  It appears to be in the middle between the McMillan and HS Precision.

Then again, stock feel and fit is important.  I don't like the way the Medalist feels.

HS P and McMillan are both top tier syn stocks.

Bell and Carlson are a notch or two lower.

Hogue is down on the lower rungs with Butler Creek and Ram Line.

All that said---they all seem pretty decent and would give years of good service.

I agree that the Bell and Carlson, generally speaking, are a notch or two below the HS, but from what many have told me, both gunsmiths and shooters alike, is that the Medalist model is an exception.  It also has an aluminum bedding block like the HS, but is apparently the same, or even better, quality as far as the synthetic fibers are concerned.

Still, I get McMillan whenever, and where ever, I can - if the price is right.
