Loads for 475 Linebaugh
« on: May 18, 2004, 11:24:40 AM »
Just now starting to load for a new G.Reeder 475 Linebaugh. Was hoping that a few contributors could offer starting and hunting loads for this caliber. I currently have on hand Hodgon 110 and 375 grain hard cast lead gas check bullets and 325 grain Speer flat point jacketed softpoints. Any load suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Scott:
I have had the Gary Reeder revolver for about 7 months. I have not shot the revolver yet; other projects have been in the way. Appearance wise this revolver is quite a nice piece; it generates plenty of oohs and aahs from those that look at it. If it shoots as well as it looks I will be quite pleased.

Scott link is very informative. Also try www.loadswap.com

Lots of info there. I have found it very helpful.

As for the gun, you will be pleased. I own two Reeder customs and both are excellent performers!

Most of my shooting is with three loads.

21gr of H4227 under a 410gr wfngc and WLP primer----1000fps
25gr of W296 under 410gr wfngc and WLP primer-------1200fps
27gr W296 under 410gr wfngc and WLP primer----------1300fps

I’ve shot these up to 1350 fps but it’s that that enjoyable for extended shooting.

I was lucky enough to kill a buck last year at 53 good paces with the middle load. As far as I know this bullet is still traveling. Passed clean through on a slight quartering away shot and tore a big chunk of wood out of a maple tree 15 yards opposite the deer.

The only thing with FA 475 is you are limited to shooting WFN bullets, LFN extend pass the cylinder unless you seat them deeper but it takes up a lot of case space to do so.

I have a partial 100 count box, about 10 missing, of LFNPB Mt. Baldy 400gr hard-cast bullets if any of you 475 shooters want them.  You pay the shipping cost and they are yours. First come first serve. My email is scottsemail@cox-internet.com

Be Safe,
Scott
