Sure would.    The first rifle is built on a 310 Martini action and chambered for .22 Hornet.    The barrel is half oct. half round and the stock is exhibition grade English walnut.    The octogon scope rings and quater rib are of my own design.    The checkering is a Fleur De Lis fill in pattern done at 28 lines per inch.

The second rifle is my .366 DGW based on a highly modified P-14 action.  The stock is Claro walnut with a picture puzzle forend tip and skeleton grip cap and inleted swivels.    This is the rifle shown with the two Gemsboks.
Third rifle is a7 X57 Mauser based on a G33/40 action it has a Kiplinger single set trigger, blind mag, Neidner checkered steel butt plate and 22 lines per inch checkering.[/img]

The wood is very beautiful.  I'm more of a synthetic stock/Stainless barrel and action kinda guy, but even I can appreciate the beauty of such wood.

Thank you guys for the compliments, I really love building these custom rifles.   I also like talking about them, my wife Barb said I should show you guys how I hide that ugly screw hole in the Ruger #1 forearm.    I use a steel, or other metal inlay, this is a great place to engrave the customers name or initials.

The inlay is heald in place by two small screws with the slots lined up North and South like all the screws on the rifle.    This rifle is another .366 DGW and has also been to Africa.   The man I built it for shot 14 animals there 11 of which were one shot kills.   The other three required a second shot due to bullet failure.    He tried some of the new "Rhino bullets" and they were not up to the task.    I do not think he will experiment on a hunt again.

Here are some of my customs.

 From top to bottom:
Model 1881 Marlin, custom built by Emil Flues (later of Ithaca Flues fame) when he was about 18 yrs old, and fresh out of apprenticeship. It was built for a judge in Saginaw, Mi in the late 1800's, and is caliber .40-60Marlin. It has been restocked with Swiss buttplate,  checkered 28lpi, and tangs bent to accomodate pistol grip. All screw heads are engraved, and metal was stripped to case color the receiver, and brown the barrel and mag tube.
#2-A Ballard #4 which started as a "junk" receiver. I rebarreled it with a Green Mountain .45-70 blank, which I contoured to 34" half octagon, and restocked with Crossno inletted walnut.
#3-A Stevens 44 receiver, rebarreled with a Badger heavy round barrel, chambered for .22 LR, deluxe walnut stocks, Winchester Helm style Swiss buttplate, and a RA Litschert 20x target scope. Builder unknown.
#4- My Remington Hepburn #3, which I started from a bare receiver, barreled with a Badger .45-70 barrel in 30" full octagon, Crossno deluxe black walnut stocks, Sharps buttplate, custom built brass 8x scope, and polished receiver. I built this one for myself, not to try and match an original.
#5-Ballard custom schuetzen rifle, built by Geo. C. Schoyen, late 1800's in Denver, Colo. It is chambered in .38-55, with false muzzle, 1/2 octagon 32" barrel, custom stocks, palm rest, Helm Swiss buttplate, double set triggers, and a combination of long range sights, and a JW Fecker 8x target scope.
Ballard, the great American Rifles!

A couple of my suppressed BSA Martinis.  Metalwork still to be refinished, wood work takes me forever (I hate the smell of sawdust, love the smell of oil :).  The butt pad needs to be fitted on the International and I might lower the right sidewall on the 1215 to make loading easier with the scope fitted.

300 ICL Tornado CUSTOM RIFLE
« Reply #13 on: September 17, 2004, 04:42:24 PM »
Well there is no wood on my CUSTOM RIFLE, and no Deep BLUED finish, I like my "CUSTOMS" a little more modern,  but I think it will classify as a CUSTOM.

It started life as a Remington 700 LA I bought at wally-world I stripped it down to action only.  Lapped the luggs, and re-drilled and tapped the scope mount holes to 8-40's

Took apart the trigger and installed Kipplinger Single Set Trigger, blah blah blah,  it ended up in 300 ICL Tornado(a Shortened & Blown out 30-06 case)

Here is a Pic of the finish product:

well hope you like the pics

Here's a small view of my custom Krieghoff Drilling.

It's on a small frame, and it's chambered 16 x 16 x 8x57jrs, and i have many extra's on, and with it.  Includeing, insert bbls, sub chambers, set trigger, custom choke tubes, inserts for 20 guage, B&L scope in claw mounts, and much more.

Over the years i've put a lot of meat in my freezer with this drilling, includeing everything from Moose, bear, and deer on down to phesants, ducks, rabbits ptmarigan and other small game.

Anyway, it's my "hunting gun" of choise these days.

This is a rifle I built for my son while my wife was pregnant with him. It is a 6.5-.284 Remington Model 7 with the action trued and squared and the the bolt lugs lapped and bolt faced squared. It has a 20" McGowen super match grade, chrome-moly barrel with target crown. It is glass and pillar bedded in a Bell and Carlson Carbalite stock with intergral sling mounts. The paint job is my own design called "Cedar Shadow" using tree branches as a stencil. It has a Leupold scope base and a set of engraved Millet rings holding a 2.5x8 Leupold Vari X III.
The barrel and action work and stock bedding was done by Henry Ball of Bill's Custom Guns, Greensboro, N.C. (He is the inventor of the smokeless powder muzzle loader. This is the same design that Savage is currently using as its Model 10ML.)

It cetainly is not as pretty as many here but every time it kicks three 129 grain Hornady Interlocks at 2900 FPS into one ragged hole at 100 yards I remember why I built it.
...for him there was always the discipline of steel.

Dr64 - I Love It!!!

I've been thinking about the same thing.  The ADL's at Wally world or somewhere, that is.  I have been trying to figure out why they wouldn't work, but other than no bottom metal, I really haven't come up with anything.  How much money and work did you have to put into it truing the action?  And what about that trigger and bolt?  They look really nice on that gun.  Kinda like one of those Ed Brown customs.  Is that a HS Precision stock?  Did you have to do any work to it?  Man, I'm glad you posted those pictures!  Kinda validates what I have been piecing together in my head.  I would love to see more pic's and hear more about your gun if you have the time.

Does anyone else have any comments about using a ADL action?  Is there another reletively inexpensive action I should be looking at?  Brownell's has a Rem700 action only, but it costs $400 by itself.  I figure I can get an ADL for $200 to $300 at a gun show or "gunbroker" or something.  My only other  idea would be to get a well used M70 that somebody is just trying to get rid of in the same price range.

I'll take any thoughts or advice I can get here.

Wally World's Reming 700 Action
« Reply #17 on: November 19, 2004, 06:08:30 PM »
I've been thinking about the same thing. The ADL's at Wally world or somewhere, that is. I have been trying to figure out why they wouldn't work, but other than no bottom metal, I really haven't come up with anything.

There is ABSOLUTELY no reason, I did not have to do a thing to the feed ramp on the action, which start out as an ADL

How much money and work did you have to put into it truing the action?

I did the bolt lug lapping myself, its not very hard once the barrel is off, which I also removed myself, and sold via eBay, I had the action & bolt face trued by the barrel maker/installer, I think the cost was like 35.oo

And what about that trigger and bolt? They look really nice on that gun. Kinda like one of those Ed Brown customs.

I had the Bolt Fluted by a gunsmith that advertises in RIFLE Magazine, I forgot his info right now, as he does not have a webpage.  I added the Badger Ordnance Tactical Knob myself before all the re-finishing was done. The Trigger I did myself, its a Kiplinger Single Set I ordered from Brownells.  It works great unset break is 2lbs, set is 14 oz.

Is that a HS Precision stock? Did you have to do any work to it? Man, I'm glad you posted those pictures! Kinda validates what I have been piecing together in my head. I would love to see more pic's and hear more about your gun if you have the time.

Yes its a HS Precision Stock, I bought it off eBay its a Remington Factory take-off, I got a real bargin on it,  the only work I did to it was steel bed the action, and add the HS Precision Detachable Magazine kit.  Thank you very much for the kind words, I love the rifle also and it was a very fulfilling project that worked out very well, it took about 3 years total to complete from the dream-up, to starting to collect parts, and send the items to the proper places.

IMO there is no other action in the price range to look at, I bought the gun out the door (tax, tag & title) for 406.oo took off the barrel, stock, and internal magazine, sold those parts for 100.oo on eBay, so that Brand New Action cost 300.oo$, how can you go wrong?!?! Just make sure you get one that has the bolt face size that you want so you don't have to spend the money on opening the bolt face

Feel free to message me your email address and I will be happy to tell you anything you want ot know about the rifle.

This is my first true custom. It's a left hand Montana action in 358win. on a Serengeti laminated stock. Scope is a Leupold VX-III 2.5-8X
I have another semi-custom, it's a Win. Model 88 that I had rebored to a 338-08 and fitted with a semi-fancy Fajen stock. Other than these two all the rest are factory stuff that had little things done like trigger work and glass bedding.
I can see where one can get hooked on customs, I have another left hand stainless Montana action waiting to be made into a 300wsm. This one will end up in a McMillan syn. stock.

Thanks for all the pics.
I currently have a ADL SA at Pac-Nor for truing and barreling, then it's on the MacMillian for a McSwirley.  Hopefully, I'll be able to post some pics in about 6 months.
