Tikka T3 Scope/Bases/Rings
« on: May 16, 2004, 08:34:08 AM »
Hey all-

Got my order in today for the Tikka T3 Lite Stainless/Synthetic in .338 Win Mag.

-- For the line of rings, I am considering either Talley or Warne.  Does anyone have first hand experience with either?  Which height rings would it take to mount the 2004 Leupold VXIII scope (3.5x10)?

-- How do the bases which come on the T3's work?  How will they hold up over time?  What would you reccommend?

-- As far as scopes go, which size scope are you using?  I am looking at the new VX III 2004 Leupold in 3.5x10.

Thanks, HuntingGuy

I use Warne rings on my Tikka WH, but I don't know if they are available for the new T3.

For the WH, the rings attach directly to the receiver, and they are super strong.

Talley makes high quality stuff, but I don't think they make their new aluminum rings in stainless finish (which I want for my stainless rifles.)

The T3 comes with rings. The rings attach to the reciever directly. The reciever is also drilled and tapped for weaver style bases.

Yea, but those rings leave much to be desired.  I'm kinda surprised - Tikka is a high quality rifle, but their rings are not that great.  They have the awesome opti-lock rings - which go on Sako rifles too, but I don't know why they don't come with the T3 - I guess probably because those rings are over $100 - or something like that.

I would suggest Conetrol rings for a Tiika or Sako ..same price as optilocks and much stronger and sit lower.

zachary - you said the t3 rings are not that great. what exactly is wrong with them?  I am picking up a t3 tonight and am mounting a leupold 3-9 compact silver scope on it. what rings/mounts would you suggest? Also would low mounts be better fitted for this scope and rifle?
