Replacement Rings: Tikkas or the Sako optilocks?
« on: May 15, 2004, 07:03:33 AM »
Hey guys.  I know the Tikka t3s come with ringsmounts, but they don't feel all that sturdy to me.  How well do you think they'd hold up on say a 270wsm or a 7mm wsm?  If I were to purchase some other rings, what should i get?  Ive heard about the Sako Optilock system, and it sounds good, but i dont really know.  Leupold doesn't ship rings with their scopes, do they?

No, Leupold does not ship rings with their scopes.  As for the mounts that comes with the T3, I too am not too fond of them and am thinking about getting better mounts.

The opti-lock mounts are great, but very expensive.

I get Warne mounts for my Tikka WHs, but I don't know if they make them for the T3.  Then again, the Warnes are heavy, and thus defeats the purpose of the T3.

Check with Leupold and see if they make rings for the T3.  If yes, then I'd look into 'em.

Talley lightweight ringmounts from either Talley directly or Midway for around $35.

Now THAT sounds like a  great option!  Talley is one of the finest rings made.

Question...do these Talley rings for the Tikka comes in a stainless finish, or are they all black? (because I have a stainless rifle and would like it to match.)

The lightweights are black only and made from aluminium----a buddy has them on a .300 Win mag---T3-----with no problems at all.

I'm pretty sure they show them on the Talley site. Been awhile since I've looked.

That talley option sounds like a good idea.  What's Talley'swebsite?

I don't quite understand why Talley doesn't make them in a stainless finish, given that, aluminum has a stainless finish to begin with, which means that Talley spends more money to make them black.
