help identify pocket pistol please.
« on: May 14, 2004, 05:13:09 PM »
I just got a hold of a neat little pocket pistol, can't figure out whatt it is though. Sorry I don't have a camera. It's a hammerless little deal. The trigger folds forward, I assume to fir in the pocket better. has no trigger gaurd, loads like a single action pitol on the right hand side with a gate that flips open. It has a guide rod, sorry don't know the correct term, that removes just as a single action, you push a button on the left side to pull out the rod. It has a 2 " barrel, Shhots 22 rimfires, although not marked for caliber.  The main body of the gun is about 2", the length about 4", width of frame around 1/2" grip is about 2" long. Has a man's head wearing a winged helmet, perhaps a viking or thor. On the cylinder load gate and guide rod all have 72. There is a flip thumb safety on the left side. Three little marks on the right side next to the barrel , the same 3 on the barrel right next to them. And it's a 7 shot. Due to the low serial number and no indication of brand or caliber I'm guessing early 1900's? Any help would be apretiated.

The "man with winged helmet" marks it as an Arminius revolver, made in Germany.  There were many of these type guns made, by many different makers in Germany, France, Russia and Spain.  Basic cheap pocket pistols of late 19th and early 20th century period.  Often referred to as "Velo Dog" revolvers, popular with bicyclists for defense against dogs.
