If a feller like me, well it is me i'm talking bout, wanted a general technical resource book on Rifles and Handguns which would you recommend. I think I am wanting a book which is a general reference, not one which gives instructions on HOW TOO do something.
I am not into gunsmithing as a do it myself kinda thing. I will leave that too the pros, although I got a lot of respect fer you fellows who like to do this kind of thing.

You can't go wrong with a catalog from Gun Parts (formerly Numeric Arms) out of West Hurley, NY. Besides a host of accessories, there is a comprehensive section dealing with exploded diagrams of firearms and cross reference material. Cost is cheap and they allow a discount on your first order.

Even if you don't reload, a good reloading manual contains a lot of valuable information. You might try the Speer #13. The manuals don't address specific guns but they are a wealth of information on different calibers. Knowledge of ammunition and performance may help you determine what guns to buy or not to buy. For each rifle or pistol cartridge, Speer has a page of info that includes intended purpose, limitations, history, and performance. Money well spent.

I vote for the greatest general knowledge gun book of them all 'GunDigest'. That tome once edited by John T. Amber is chock full of informative articles and shows nearly all the firearms currently being made in or imported to the USA... A great book!!

I have found the Blue Book Of Values to contain alot of info. other than the value of a weapon, it has manu. dates for the model and the various calibers it could be had in.
