Author Topic: Remington discontinue of RUM/SAUM (Read 1598 times)

Is this just a rumor or is there any justification behind it. The reason being, I was thinking of purchasing a 300 RUM or SAUM. I do reload, but if this is the case, I would hate to spend all the money and then see that brass is hard to come by.

I think at this point it is just another rumour. Probably started because Remington is making less and less models chambered in those calibers instead of vice versa. It wouldn't keep me from buying one though, there is a lot of brass out there and how many cases would you need for a lifetime of shooting?

The .300 RUM is the most popular of the ultra Magnum line of cartridges and should be around for quite a while. Like Coyote Hunter said the worry about the RSAUM line as it is dying on the vine so to speak. You want a .300 RUM then get it as brass will be around for quite a while. Small groups and tight lines to you. Lawdog

I think the .300RUM will stay. It is a very good cartridge and because the lack of a belt one of my favored magnums.
On the other hand the SAUM are much more in danger to die out. The WSM are just the better performers so the SAUM don't have much of a future.
I even have to go one step further and recommend Remington to start building Hunting Rifles in the WSM Calibers. If they don't, they will lose a lot of money in the long run.

Local gun shop said lots of people are buying the .300saum remington rifles and having them rechambered for .300wsm immediately. Bad news for remington.

I own a 300RUM and a 7mmRUM. I am not worried about the .300RUM being discontinued.

I recently purchased a new Remington 673 Guide Rifle in .300REM SA Ultra Mag. I like the ballistics of this one. The rifle is really sweet with a very nice action. I ordered two boxes of factory ammo, 100 pieces of brass and Redding dies from Midway to get me on the road to loading. Factory ammo for this caliber is pretty danged expensive. If this one is in the death stage I guess I might ought to get a few hundred more pieces of brass to ensure I have it in the future.

Excellent idea. Check out the reloading equipment for brass on Ebay. Some very good bargains there. I picked up 200 rounds of one time fired .270 WSM brass a couple of weeks ago for $9.52(not including shipping). Lawdog

I think the 300 is gonna be around for awhile,Between my buddy and my brother and myself we've got 4 of em,3-300's and a 375RUM.
