Need a rear sight
« on: May 03, 2004, 06:00:05 AM »
OK,

I bought a S&W 610 10mm (made in 1990) at a gun show last year. It was missing the complete rear sight assembly, which dropped the price considerably. Apparently, the previous owner took it off to mount a scope
and didn't send it to the dealer.

My problem is this: NO ONE HAS THE ASSEMBLY IN STOCK!  I just got off the phone with Smith and Wesson's parts department and they don't have a part number for the assembly for a gun that old. :x

Not only that, they can't recommend a new model sight because they don't
cross-reference to my old gun!

Can anyone point me in the right direction on where to find what I'm looking for? PLEASE?

I'm ashamed to say that I can't recall what frame size the 10mm is, though it's either an 'L', or an 'N'. I lean toward the latter. :-)  Call them back and ask them for an assembly for either the 686-3 or 4(L), or the 629-3 or 4(N). Those should be from the same production era, and one or the other ought to fit.  8)

The model 610 10mm revolver is a N frame revolver it should take a N frame sight. What you need to do is contact a gunsmith who does a lot of revolver work he should have a lot of S&W sights in stock (that he takes off of custom guns when he puts the custom sights on) worth a try.
