Model 1890 in WRF

I know the question has been asked many times before but here goes. I just was given an old model 1890 winchester in 22 WRF. I am aware of the cartridge but my question is can I shoot 22 longs or long rifles in the gun? If I do, could I cause damage to the gun, would the accuracy be poor, etc...

Short answer, NO. .22 short, long ,long rifle are smaller diameter than the wrf and usually result in split cases. Also feeding should be a problem. You will never go wrong shooting the ammo the gun was designed for.

As stated ... no .
The 22 WRF is right at the same dia as the 22 mag . Way back when the ammo was cheap and plentiful my uncles and grand dad shot them from 22 mag bolt guns. Kind of like 22 mag shorts
