Early Taurus L-30 38 Special
« on: April 27, 2004, 05:56:17 PM »
This is a Taurus L-30 that used to be my Dads.
It was made in 1974 in Brazil.
It is Nickle plated and in fair shape for being 30 years old
It's marked L-30 in several places under grips etc.
It won't take a model 66 grip without modification,Hogue grips are different because of how they mount,Not a S&W frame either..
Are there others out there who have a old early Taurus?
In this pic there's the Taurus L-30 , Dan Wesson 15-2 and Ruger SPNY SP101

Well It's been several months now and no other replies.
Is it possible that I have one of the first Taurus ever made.
It's marked 74 under the grip & L-30..

I have a Taurus model 80 .38 Spl. with a 4" barrel, blued. Made, I believe, in 1977. Last week I had to tweak the forcing cone and front of cylinder due to not enough BC gap when the gun got dirty. I filed just a little off of each. So, I tested it at the range with the dirtiest ammo I could find. Fired 50 rounds double action and it is just as smooth after the session as before the session. The accuracy is great also. Fast double action planted 44 of 50 in the sweet spot at 12yds. Great little gun. It is a S&W model 10 copy, except the barrel is not heavy or tapered. It is medium and straight. Sorry can't post pics.

According to their web-site the first revolver they released was made in 1941. I wonder if any of those are out there.
