Just got back from south Texas. 5 hogs and 1 Javelina all with a XP-100 in 284 Win.. Shot 2 rattlesnakes with a NAA Black Widow in 22 lr.

Jeff - nice going.  Did you manage to get any pictures?  Your hunt sounds like youhad a great time and congradulations on your success.

BTW, didja cook up them rattlers????  Little bacon grease and some salt and they taste pretty good, but not as good as those piggies do.  Congrats.  Mikey.

Congrats.  Isn't it amazing what pests those hogs have become?  Its really sad how they can screw up some good deer country.  More and more ranchers are going to a policy of shoot 'em all and leave 'em just to try to get the numbers down.

Junco Ranch, betwix Freer and Encinal. 47,000 acres, unguided. Weekdays are $125 and weekends are $150.

In Texas, only need out of state general license.  Feral hogs considered vermin and have no closed season or State limits, only landowner limits.  Javelina vary from county to county, but most counties south of San Antonio have no closed season.   Bag limits vary.  Info at Texas Parks & Wildlife online.  On javelina, either have a guide field dress them or have a local show you how.  They have a scent gland to be dealt with.  If not done properly you will ruin the carcass, and they are pretty tasty.  The terrain is much like areas of South Africa and Australia.  If you are not accustomed to moving through snake country, have the locals show you.  Knowing where and how to walk is far more effective than all the leggings and snake loads in the world.
