My wife bought a new Ruger 10/22 rifle and it has the worst trigger that I have ever seen.:x:  The manual says it should be between 8 and 9 lbs., but I measure it at nearly 10 lbs..

She is just going to use this gun to pop squirrels on our farm so I don't want to sink a ton of money into it.  Is there a cheap solution to solving this problem.  Replacement springs etc...

I appreciate any help I can get on this one. :grin:

Rimfirecentral.com is the place for you.  They are about 90% devoted to the 10/22 over there, and there is plenty of trigger info.  That said, there will probbly be a bunch of recommendations to replace the hammer or sear or whole trigger group with parts from Volquartsen.  I don't own a 10/22 but that seems to be the common prescription for trigger probelms on them.

Try just installing a set of Wolff springs.  May be just what's needed rather than spending 3 - 4x as much on Vol parts.

Most of the guys at rimfire central would say just replace the hammer with a Volquartson hammer, leave the rest alone.  It should put it down to around 3 pounds.  It is a drop in part.

This is the way to go. Do not replace any of the springs - just the ruger hammer with the Volquartson hammer. Did this on my custom built 10/22 and my wifes stock 10/22. She loves it. Also the Volquartson magazine release would be nice for her. Easier to get the magazines out. You can also do the bolt realease your self. Just get a dremal tool and remove the peak.



One of the thing that you can do yourself is to make a auto bolt release by doing some very minor work to the Bolt lock. Above is a pic. of what needs to be done. Just remove yours and you can see the little peak that needs to be removed from the Bolt lock. The peak is in the big hole. (This pic shows peak removed).

Also to advoid cases hanging up add the A Volquartsen "Exact Edge" extractor.

Very cheap to do all of this.
