Hunters breakfast
« on: April 24, 2004, 01:41:35 AM »
I got this recipe off http://www.allrecipes.com/default.asp a while back and tried it for breakfast the day of the hunt.  I cook it up the night before and refrigerate it.  Then when I get up (even before the sun does   ) I put a bunch on a plate and put it into the stove on it lowest setting.  I let it warm while Im showering so that when I get out its nice and warm.  Then I top it off with gravy.  Its kinda like biscuits gravy and sausage all in one.  About 5 of these will easily keep my stomache free of growls till way past noon.

I know it says breakfast sausage, and thats how I started cooking this recipie.  But that is easily replaced by your fav. game sausage.

3/4 pound breakfast sausage
1/8 cup minced onion
1/8 cup minced green bell pepper
1 (12 ounce) can refrigerated
   biscuit dough
 3 eggs, beaten
3 tablespoons milk
1/2 cup shredded
   Colby-Monterey Jack cheese

Directions
1 Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
2 In a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat, combine
sausage, onion and green pepper. Cook until sausage is evenly
brown. Drain, crumble, and set aside.
3 Separate the dough into 10 individual biscuits. Flatten
each biscuit out, then line the bottom and sides of 10
muffin cups. Evenly distribute sausage mixture between the
cups. Mix together the eggs and milk, and divide between the
cups. Sprinkle tops with shredded cheese.
4 Bake in preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes, or until
   filling is set.

Note:
I use my turkey baster to suck the egg mixture out of the
bowl, and then I squirt it over the sausage. This works great,
and not nearly as messy as trying to pour the mixture into
   each muffin cup.

Sounds great to me.  I bet you get to taste those peppers etc... every so often during the rest of the morning...eh?  I bet it would also do real well in soft burrito shells.

That sounds good too.  I like anything thats fast during hunting season. I like to make french toast with no added butter the night before and put them in the freezer and the next morning pop them in the toaster and add butter and their just as good as fresh made and fast too.   BigBill

I hate going out hunting on an empty stomach.

New Hampshire, Sounds great, I can't wait to try these. I'm thinking of using jalepeno or some other hot pepper instead of the bell. But thats just me   .
