Single Six Leading
« on: April 23, 2004, 02:09:03 PM »
Hello:

Got a new Ruger Single Six .22LR/.22 Magnum. Haven't shot the magnum much but have put quite a few LR through it. I've been using mainly Winchester Dynapoints. They shoot about as well as any El Cheapo Wal-Mart ammo and certainly better than the Remington. At any rate, I'm getting a considerable accumulation of lead after about 200-300 rounds. It collects on the frame and top strap around the barrel as well as a thick coating around the hub in the center of the cylinder. I have to take a homemade brass tool to peel hunks of lead off the gun. There's no significant accumlation in the barrel. I admittedly haven't tried much other ammo and probably should but I'm wondering if other folks have this experience with the Ruger Single Six or, pending trying another brand of ammo, should I be talking to Ruger about sending it in?

Thanks for any info.

Pete

Jay,  my brother had the same problem about 15 years ago with his single six.  The cylinder is not lining up with the barrel, I'll bet your accuracy is terrible too.  Unfortunantly, you have to send it to Ruger, they will fix it, but you have to pay shipping to them.  My brothers is fine now.  Ocassionaly a turd gets out, but in general I think Rugers are a good value.
