Walther KKS-D
« on: April 20, 2004, 07:04:00 AM »
Greetings,

Am seeking input on the Walther KKS-D 22 target rifle.  Does anyone have any experience with this model?  I have learned it was made in the 60's and appears to be a well made rifle.

I want to use it for silhouette matches and am wondering if it is suitable for the desired purpose.

Thanks,

Dale

Walther made some very good rifles.  One being the KKMS that was made for silhouette shooting. At most local matches they will let you shoot anything that you can drag to the firing line.  By shooting a rifle that is not in line with the rules you may not be eligible for prizes or awards. After you play the game a while you will want a rifle that fits the rules.  The KKSD you are looking at may have a target type stock that may be a bit large for some of the silhouette rules. Some of main rules are 10 lb  2 oz  maximum weight of the rifle and scope.  Fore end Stock width a max of 2 1/4 inches and 2 1/4 inches deep from the center line of the bore.  Toe of the stock not more than 7 inches below the centerline of the bore.  It might be best to spend a few dollars and get a rifle silhouette rule book from the NRA befor you spend quite a bit more on a rifle.  Good shooting

I purchased the rifle and am extremely pleased with it.  The stock spec's are within the limits you posted, the trigger is the best I've ever used.  Using a older Tasco 8X32 along with Aguila Golden Eagle Target it groups under an inch at 110 yards.  Haven't done the old ammo search yet but looking forward to it to see just what it will do with real match grade ammunition.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated!

Look in the Greybeard index for Rifle Silhouette.  Wander over there and ask some more questions.  You may even be able to get some match information in your area.  Or call the NRA silhouette department and ask where some matches are. Or look in the NRA Shooting Sports Magazine.
Have fun.
