Ruger 77 Rebore to 338-06 or 35 Whelen

I have a Ruger 77, with a Douglass SS Barrel on it in .270 Win.
I would like to "Upgrade" to a Large Bore.
Does anybody know a "Barrel Rebore-Oligist" that could rebore this to either .338-06 or .35 Whelen?
Would this be a "Feasible" Project?

Not sure what contour your barrel is, but it CAN be done, assuming the barrel is stout enough. I would just have it rebarreled myself, sometimes funny things can happen when that much steel is removed, and there is no guarantee it would work out well. You can get a new Douglas for about a buck fifty, and then whatever your favorite smith charges. Just my .02worth.

Randall Redman rebored a pre-64 Winchester Model 70 .30-06 to .35 Whelen. I am very happy with the rifle and it shoots great. You can reach Randall at: Redman's Rifling & Reboring

I found a browning a-bolt in 338 win. nice gun for 400 dollars..I wanted it bored out to 357 dia. with a one in fourteen twist..redman told me to find him a rem or a win 06 & he would take on the job...Seems hammer forged barrels do not re-cut very well..So I'm hunting for a likely candidate..You would think those kind of 06 rifles would be everywhere..Not here anyway..I ran across two nice guns..A Rem classic in 35 whelan with a 1 in sixteen twist..Hummm..I thought about it but the 650 price tag seemed steep & the twist was slower than I wanted..The second gun I found was an older Sako hunter in 270 ..She had seen some service but the finish & trigger convinced me that was the gun to re-barrel to 35 whelan..Oh & the price with leupold base & rings 495.00 + 6% sales tax..It is the perfect gun to redo as it should enhance it's value & still end up costing less than a new sako ..I'm very excited about this project..My wife & I have been putting in for the moose hunting lottery..That gun is for use in that hunt..I wanted a rifle I could easily download to get her into shooting a bigger bore gun..with only pistol bullets & reduced charges of powder to start ..I'm going to increase the loadings a bit at a time until she can handle full power loadings & 225 or 250 grain bullets..The 35 caliber has a great selection of bullets...What do you guys think ???

Many years ago Randy rebored a Ruger 77 in 30-06 out to .338-06, and it came out just fine!  I remember killing a moose or two with it, a brown bear, and i forget what else?  I had him make it up so i could test the caliber before makeing up a custom rifle in this round.

  Over the years, Randy has done 25 or 30 bbls for me, and all work he has done for me has been first class!!
