Best Ammo Choice?
« on: April 18, 2004, 03:55:27 PM »
Can anyone tell me the most accurate off-the-shelf ammo for the Beretta 96FS?  I have been using the 165 gr. FMJ Winchesters from wal-mart and they are fairly inconsistant.  I know you can't expect pinpoint accuracy with a pistol but i would like to be able to consistantly hit a milk jug at 25 yards.  Thanks.
I didn't work my way to the top of the food chain to become a vegetarian.

It's been my experience that when I can't keep my shots anywhere close, it's usually me and not the gun or ammo. However, I have run across bad lots of ammo that were inaccurate. Usually, the Winchester White Box is the best "cheap" ammo I've found and it's usually pretty consistent. As a matter of fact, white box hollowpoints, like those sold at Wal-Mart, have been the most accurate rounds I've tried out of my 92FS. If you're wanting to stay cheap, try some more of those, or try the Remington UMC's or Federal American Eagles. You can also up your price range and try different hollowpoints, like those from CCI, Federal, Winchester, Remington, Black Hills, Cor-Bon, etc. You should find something that works.
Even without grocery stores, I won't go hungry.
