Dan Wesson .22?
« on: April 17, 2004, 07:33:39 AM »
I just located a very nice(Original)Dan Wesson, 22-VH6(Revolver)in an out of town, Gun Shop-and, I don't know much about these guns-but this one, is at least, 98%++ condition!  The Gun Shop, won't lower the price, below $250(This is Kalifornia!)!  I would like to know, if this is a good, Dan Wesson .22(To buy?)and, if it would be considered(By you, Dan Wesson "Experts"!)to be one of the better made, vintages, of this specific DW revolver-based upon the information, I took, from the stampings, on the gun, as follows:

1)The Company, is marked:  Dan Wesson Arms.

2)Monson, MA.

3)Serial number is 8725.

Other questions:

1)Based on the Serial number of 8725, can you approximate, when this gun, might have been made?

2)I had never seen one of these guns before-but, I first noticed that the highly "Polished" blued finish, was just "Beautiful"-and, the trigger action, seemed to be as "Slick" as a Colt Python!

3)Is it still possible, to obtain a .22 caliber barrel(And, the polished blued)barrel shroud(Four-inch length)for this gun?

4)Please tell this Dan Wesson("Newbie")anything you can, about this gun, in question(And, if you'd recommend that I buy this gun(Or, if not?)?

Thanks!

Dan Wesson .22?

I say a gun is worth what you're willing to pay. If you can't afford it, don't buy it. If it's something that you really like because of that pretty blue finish, then go for it. I don't know the value's of the .22's, but you can't touch a NICE .357 for that kind of money. Don't get me wrong, you MIGHT stumble across one, but it's not that often.

I tell you a story on the different place's of manufacture, that a Dan Wesson dealer told me. He said ALL the gun's are the same. The only difference in a new one and a 30 year old one, is the marking's on them. He said the one's that got a bad rep was the one's made in Palmer, Mass. And the reason that happened was due to finacial reason's. When the company changed owner's among the family, the new owner tried to save some money on some of the internal part's. They went with a cheaper part supplier. And that's when they had all the problem's with inferior part's, resulting in a bad reputation. Now weather or not all that's true,,,I don't know.

The Monson version's do seem to be more collectable. That's the one's I like.

Barrel's are availible on e-bay, and all the gun auction's. You can also get them new straght from Dan Wesson. I'm not sure if they are availible in .22 or not. You'll have to check. The only difference in the new one's, is they have a different marking on them. But it's the same part.

If it was me, and the gun was that nice, like I know they can be, I would buy it. But that's me.  Cal

Dan Wesson .22 barrel tools(Still available)?

1)Although, the Monson, Dan Wesson .22, appears to be very nice, I would have felt that $250, would have looked like a much better deal, if at least, one extra barrel(And, the necessary, barrel tool(s))and, the gun box, would have been included, with the gun?

2)At the very minimum, when this gun, was new, would it have come in a foam inner box(With at least, one extra barrel)or, just with the gun(And, maybe, with the barrel tool?)?

3)What else(At the very minimum)would have been included, with the basic gun?

4)Will any, barrel, from any year(With the recessed nut)fit(Without problems))on the Monson, MA Dan Wesson guns(In this case, in .22 caliber)?  I ask this, because I might want to change to a shorter barrel(Either with the heavy, VR-or, with the short shoud(With or without vents))?

5)I'd like to get it straight(About the bad years, for quality control-or, for the guns, that were known to be of inferior quality(In certain years?))?  Were most of the Monson, guns, of good quality(Or, were alot of those bad, also?)or, was it just the Palmer, guns, that had a bunch of bad quality guns-or, other years too?  If some of the Monson guns were bad-what years, would reflect this(Early or late Monson, gun production?)?

6)Does anybody, have any idea, about when, the Monson, Dan Wesson gun(In question)approximately, was made(With serial number 8525)?  Even, a "Close" guess?  I'm thinking, that somebody, might have some older, serial number charts(Or copies)that they had obtained, before these were "Confiscated" by BATF?
