7mm08? Savage?
« on: April 14, 2004, 09:18:31 AM »
Just purchased a savage 10GXP3 in the 7mm-08.. New to this caliber but have read many good things about it. I have a winchester m70 3006 presently but wanted a good back up gun. Any opinions?

Still a little new to SAVAGE rifles. Just want to make sure i am getting something decent. I couldn't pass on the price and from what i have read on several forums, the accuracy of the savage guns is great. I wish i had more info on the caliber however. And why does it seem this caliber is all that popular. Seems like a winner to me.

There are a lot of reasons why the 7-08 is popular.

First and foremost, it is inherently accurate.

In addition, the 7mm class of bullets is probably second in popularity only to the .30 calibers, so different bullet weights and styles are easy to come by.  Also, due to modern powders, one can achieve long caliber balistics from a short action round, making it extremely versitile.  This caliber can be hand loaded for everything from varmits to moose.  The list goes on and on.

Sounds like you made a fine choice to me.

I'll second everything 'smoky' had to say.  Great choice.  Lawdog
