Marlin runs with over bore in 44CB
« on: April 13, 2004, 07:40:14 PM »
If you like to read something interesting about a Marlin 44 Mag that has a .431 bore then go to the shooter s form at beartooths bullets.
I thought that over bore rifles were a thing of the past. tolerance's from the war years.
Well 1x2 has a Marlin CB with a 24 inch barrel and was basically advised that this rifle is with in the new Spec.
Now were do you think he is going to get .432-433 bullets for this rifle . We are going to need 44 bullet in 429 through to 433.

Well then there is my Marlin guide gun that does yet to discover a sweet spot  were it will shoot groups. I think we need to slug that one too. the barrel said 45/70 but it might really be a 46 /70

Think of it shooters , you might want to slug that bore out first before you buy

Well I am sure ticked.

You mean bullet size . I was refering to bore size of the 44 Mag and the 45/70 Guide.
Just start looking for lead ans jacketed bullets in that size.

I have an old friend that had a 303 Savage that he bought in '35 . It too has  a generousbore andhe could not shoot groups with it. He alwaysthought it was that he could not shoot , until we loaded him some lead bullets that fit the bore.
Now were do you get oversized jacketed bullets for your 44 and45/70.
Yes you canget lead from Beartooth sized 460 but have you seen 433 for the fourty fourMag.
Why do we have to put up with this ?

call me wacky but if i had a gun like that i would be working with marlin to get it corrected.  things happen.  i have learned that everyone makes a turd now and then, but it is what they do when it is brought to their attention that counts.

Well  I am told that the 44 SAMMI spec has changed in the last few years and the 44 Mag rifle is now .431.

So if you are going to load lead and you like to go with one thou.,   over the bore size, you need to do some shopping . I understand Beartooth bullets can help with lead, but are you going to load .429 jacketed ?

This is not going to give you sub groups .
Marlin will be hiding behind the new 44SAMMI spec.
