Friend looking at purchasing two barrels: 223 & 7mm-08 .. SS

I think a heavy in 223 - 26 inch .....

Burris Scopes

Shooting paper mostly.

The t/c custom shop barrel from Fox Ridge is hard to beat for the price. It's not much more than a regular factory barrel, but you have all the custom options such as caliber, taper, length, etc. My pistol barrel is a real shooter. Delivery time seems to be 12+ weeks though.

Plain ol T/C factory barrel would be my choice if they make what you want. I have 9 factory barrels and one Fox Ridge and they all punch paper just fine.

You have to go a long way to beat and I don't believe you can, either VV or Bull berry barrels. They are the best. As for bases-Virgin valley with either Talley or warne rings. With the custom barrels, you can pick what twist you want. If you reload it really makes a difference and if you want you can get the correct throat for a particular bullet.

I purchased a factory heavy 26" barrel in .223 from Ed's T/C's for $215 and I'm very pleased. I topped it off with a Winchester 6.5X20X50 scope.
After a 100 round break-in, I set up for some serious target practice.
I got consistant 1/2" groups @ 100 yards with Sellier & Belliot 55gr JHP's.
I then moved to 200 yards and got 1" groups. Finally, I moved to the end of the range (250 yards) and held 1".
I don't think I can shoot any better than that.
Give Ed a call. I bet he has your barrel in stock and priced cheaper than anyone else.

Then again, my only other barrel is a factory 24" in .270 Win.
The best groups I've shot at 100 yards are 2".
I have not even tried longer ranges. This barrel is back at the factory for the second time.
If that's the best it will do, I'll likely use the .223 barrel for deer hunting and use the .270 for a fishing anchor.

I have the factory stainless 26" heavy barrel in .223 for my Encore...out of the six rifles I took on my prairie dog trip last year, this became my favorite. Since I bought the gun right before I left, I didn't have time to work up any loads, so I used a standard recommended load of 28gr of WW748 and 50gr V-Maxes. It was a deadly combo...while I don't have formal target group information, I had hit after confirmed hit on varmint, most in the vicinity of 200-350 yards. Suffice it to say, I would be really surprised if I couldn't get .5 groups or better on paper.

My oldest son has a SS 26inch Encore barrel. His shoots just like runs with scissors describes.

Thanks everyone ....... We'll order a TC Heavey SS 26", Matt without sights 223, put a Burris 3-9 Balistic Plex on it and shoot up some paper. Found a new heavy as above for $240 and I believe that's about as good as it gets.
