Help {Sako Finnlight .270 or 7mm-08}
« on: April 12, 2004, 05:40:41 AM »
I need help deciding which route to go. I have a sako 75 7mm Magnum for power lines and fields and such, but I want a good woods rifle. Light to carry and haul up in climbers. Is the 7mm-08 big enough to handle big whitetails. I mostly pass on everything except trophys. Most shots would be inside 200 Yards. Thanks for your help in this matter. Jeff

Does the sako come in a short action or are they all long actions? Since you already have 7mm mag I would stick with the 7mm08. That way you can start reloading and save on components.

Sako's come in 4 or 5 different action sizes.

The 7mm-08 should be just fine for your listed requirements.

I agree.  For whitetails within 200 yards, the 7mm-08 is a fine cartridge, and the finnlight is a fine rifle too.

The only thing that I don't like about the finnlight is that it has a really short barrel - I think something like 20" for standard cartridges, and 22" for magnums.
