I have a problem with my DW model 15
« on: April 08, 2004, 06:03:01 AM »
The trigger does not return to the front after firing the gun. this has gotton to the point that the gun just locks up instead of fires making it useless for defence or IHMSA hunting or anything else. Is this a simple fix or do I have to taks the gun to a smith?
thanks

Look to see if the triger return spring # 41 hasen't  came of it recess in the trigger or maybe the trigger return spring itself is broken.
Wolff Gunsprings and DW would have the part available.
Good Luck!!

fix it without shipping it out. I love that gun its part of my personally compiles pistol pack(via gun shows and auction arms) I have barrels from 2.5" to 8" 2 different ones in 4" and the barrels while mostly blue I do have a couple of stainless ones as well. I am really proud of this gun and would not like to lose it to some UPS theif. Thanks again for the help.

Did you ever get that spring Jim?
If you can't find one let me know, I have a Buddy that used to work for DW in Monson Mass. and He'd have a Spring.Lives in Ohio..
Get the Wolff, I'm Going Too!!
Also Biff's Gun World Had a Few in his Goodie Box Too.
I'm gonna get a 4" schroud from him that matches my 8" & 6"..For my home made Pistol Pack.Still lookin for a 2 1/2" barrel and schroud that doesn't have the vents in Blue..Orange sight..

I am currently living on SSI and this on a very limited budget. I will get it as soon as I figure I can affors the wolff spring kit for the whols gun and have the cash to spare. Right now while I have all the bills paid I am living hand to mouth otherwise until my work pension is approved(I had to retire disabled from there too) I am awaiting the boards approval once I have that and my work pension things will losen up around here a little and I can get a few luxeries like the spring kit a new airpistol and maybe a T/c barrel but for now all non esentuals are on hold but at least I know what I need to get to put my beloved DW back on its feet without sending it to wesson arms to the tune of $70! thanks for the info. I will post when its fixed and I can actually get to the range to fire it. One thing you can do for me wheres the best place to get the spring kit? Brownells? I am listed as a dealer with them.  Thanks for your help.

Are you sure yours is broken,Remove Side Plate & Look and see.
I'll be going to Biff's some time soon and I'll pick you one up if he's still got any left,They would be used OE Dan Wesson Parts.
But realy If I had to Choose I would go with the Wolff Kit and get a factory strenth one too+ hammer spring..
You might want to lighten it up but don't want light hammer strikes..
I have got to get a fairly large order together for Me and a few buds!!
The Wolff DW kit will be on the list for sure.
I'm realy happy with thier kit for my Ruger SPNY SP101.Light & Smooth and 100% with all ammo tried..
But if I can Commondier a spring from Biff Jr. I'll send it on to ya Sir!! He's a very nice older gentleman who has the most old school gun store you ever seen.
It's like going back in time 40 years. He's got everything and I mean everything,I got my 6" & 8" barrels from him and they were in an old wooden box that took him 10 minutes to find. He's a packrat and throws nothin away.
He's got a older DW 15-2 that missing the crane and cylinder w/ 6" barrel for $150..He's also got the parts to repair it,In his DW Goodie Box.
Setting the Headspace is the only real trick to doing one of those repairs But I have an Internet friend that worked for DW in the 70s and he could do it for me if I wanted..You might also be able to use S&W end shake shims also available from Brownell's,And then just set the cylinder gap DW style to .002"-.006", I like between .0025"-.003".. The headspace is .060"-.064"..You use a deprimed case in the cylinder and measure with a feeler gauge set... I have a half dozen new never primed cases I use for this there headspace tools.
I'll let you know about the spring Jim.. I may make it there in a week or two,It's near Fort Knox KY..In Valley Station, He also owns the Knob Creek Shooting range in West Point KY...

I'll be going there in a week or two.
I'll let you know.
Did you remove your sideplate to see what's going on inside there?
I'd bet the spring is broken,Could be somethin else though..
Theres a small spring on the back of the cylinder crane that holds tention on the cylinder stop,It could cause trouble too.
Keep us informed,I'll post back to ya after going to see Biff
Good Luck Jim!!!

I am banned from e-bay and have been since I took exception to their stance on selling firearms and including airguns. I have since tried to get on again but no dice. I will open thengun this weekend and perhaps I can obtain a spring set from wolff some day soon whenI can afford it.
thanks anyway

When I last tried to use my DA model 15 revolver the trigger would not return when trying to fire the gun. The gun would go off and the trigger would stay back. It even did this when dry firing. Now after almost 2 years in the gunsafe the damn thing works?!!! I have been clicking away here today and not a boble. No hint of trouble at all I have  hanged the barrel twice and continue to dry fire the gun  but so far nothing has gone wrong at all. I can just dry fire away and nothing happens thats not susposed to(ie the gun fires just fine.) I am at a loss at whats wrong here anybody have any ideas? Any help would be welcome. THANKS
