Well I am going to have to jump in and say at one time I owned every centerfire rem. built from the 17 rem up to the 300 win. and never hjad any real peoblem with them that isnt expected with the ownership of a firearm, you will have some problems that you can take care of yourself, I have owned a few Weatherbys but for some reason they just wasnt my favorite rifle ( Didnt seem to fit me ) anyhow when I was in the business of selling guns I did sell alot of them but for the most part and not always the money issue I sold ALOT more remingtons and to some people who could have probably bought weatherby lock stock and barrel, if you were to have the production numbers of both companys you would see that rem on a percentage basis will have some of the best production rifles out there.  Which ever one you decide to purchase enjoy it remember half the fun of buying a new gun is the time spent handling different ones. :D    JIM

For what its worth. I own 2 remington 700, 1 Weatherby Mark VI and a browning a bolt II.
Both remingtons shoot one hole cluster's to solid 1/2inch groups all day any day.
My Browning A bolt does the same. The Weatherby is another story.
The Weatherby will group under an 1/2 with the first two shoots and then throw a 1/2 to 3/4 inch flyer. I let it cool between shots and I consider it to be a 1-1/2 gun. I have gotten a few two inch groups and some stringing.
I have bedded the action and just recently bedded the full length of the stock. I think the thin plastic stock ( free floated barrel ) was bending and making some contact from my sand bags. My gun smith put bedding compend threw the channel in the stock to correct the abnormal contact.
The barrel is still free floated. I haven't shot it since the work was done but i figure we will get 1 inch groups from it now.
My wifes cousin just purchased the howa 1500 in 7 Mag and it shoots 1/2 inch groups all day long. His Remington was a 2 inch gun.
For the MONEY and the weatherby guarantee, Buy the Vanguard.
I would.

If you got the money then get a Remington Mountain rifle in 7mm-08 put a good scope on it and don't look back.

I have both and feel that for the money a Weatherby Vanguard vs a ADL type remington is a better bang for your buck, the 24" barrel on the WBY is a plus in my book that is vs a 22" from remington.

As far as triggers go new rifles are lawyer infested, the remington is a little easier to work with vs the WBY.

I don't know about true Weatherby actions, but, given that the Vanguard series is a Howa action, which has a self-adjustable trigger, I believe that it is easier to adjust than the Remington.  I have my Remington's taken to a gunsmith for trigger jobs, but a Tikka, Sako, and Howa/Wby Vanguard can be self-adjusted without the need of a gunsmith.

Zack,
Trigger pull to me and to you are two different things, yes a Vanguard trigger is adjustable, nut/screw in back, nut/screw in front,
but to get it where I wanted it the saftey would no longer work, so now it becomes a labor intensive chore to get want I want and have a working saftey. Where as the remingtons for me are much easier to get the results I need.  I like good triggers!

I watched a Michigan sports show last nite.  The main guy on the show (Michigan Outdoors)  Bought a Rem 243 synthetic I think it was an ADL but am not sure.  Anyway, he said it was a  1.5" - 2" shooter.  He went to a company called Williams Gunsite and they did a trigger job, floated the barrel, recrowned the barrel ,cuz it wabbled when it was spun on their machine, and lapped his scope rings.  After all that was done it shot 1/2" groups.  He did not say what it would cost some average person walking into the store to have all this done.  He also did not say if any one of the things that they did would have solved the problem by itself.  They just gave it the complete makeover.  To me, it does not seem right that a guy should have to do all of this to get a good shooter out of a new rifle.  Maybe he got a gun made on monday or friday :?

Mort retired.  Fred Trost took it over and got sued by Buck Stop lures for (telling the truth about their product)  slander.  He lost about everything and so one of his co-hosts jumped on it and joined up with the MUCC for a show called Michigan Out Doors.  His name is Bob Garner, who since is in politics.  And could not hunt his way out of a paper bag (in my opinion and most people who know of him up in these parts).  The original show is now called "The Practical Sportsman".  Nothing like the good old days you remember.
