O.K., I think I finally have it set up the way I want it. After getting an Encore 209X50 I purchased a 24" .223 barrel for it. I wasn't happy with vertical stringing I was getting with the barrel although it would group MOA at times. I also really wanted a 26" heavy barrel and am not sure why I didn't just get one in the first place. Well, now I have it. Here are the specifics on my set-up. :grin:

T/C Encore SS Frame
T/C Encore SS 26" .223 heavy barrel
Boyd Bros. gray laminate buttstock and heavy forend
Warne Maxima base and rings
Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16X40MM AO scope
Harris Bipod

Nice looking rifle! I'd like to do the same thing to my stainless 209X50 with a .22-250 and/or .25-06 barrel.

Verrrry NICE.
If looks can kill ...I think it will. I like the heavy barrels too. You can watch the downrange impact when using the .223.

Great taste!
I have basically the same rig, but mine is blue with the nutmeg-colored laminated stocks and my scope is a Winchester 6X20X50.
I went with .223 because it is so available and cheap to buy.
My other choice would have been 25-06 because the brass is so close to my .270.
My deer rig has the 24" barrel and a Leupold 3X9X50 scope. The best groups I've got so far were 2". I do expect better performance with the heavy, longer barrel.
I'll have it on the range this weekend and will report back as to how it shoots.

Here's my rig (homemade walnut stock) with a 6.5-06 Ackley barrel from EABCO. I was getting 2"+ groups from it, too, until I put the front rest on the receiver end of the forearm, in fact, almost touching the receiver. Here's the rifle

and the latest target I fired this past Sat.

Seems like a lot of us are going the same direction. I am currently waiting for a SS 26" .243 Rem barrel to put on my SS Encore frame. I bought it with the 209x50 barrel on it and decided I NEEDED a coyote killin' rig!

Hey Scissors, got any pics of your set up with the Nutmeg and blue. I am trying to figure out which way to go color wise and just cant picture your combo in my mind. I bet it looks great.

I have a photo of my .270/Leupold/24" barrel rig but can't seem to post it.
IMO, having seen both color schemes, the nutmeg looks better on the blue rifle and the black/gray looks better on stainless.

Just to spice things up a bit . . . SS w/ Nutmeg (brown laminate)

I'll have to agree though. Gray and SS, and Brown and blued are the best combos.

My pistol version of the Encore is a .308 Win. You definately no it goes off, but its heavy. I equate it to hot 44 mag loads out of a revolver. I've never tried anything but the laminated grips so I'm not sure how a set of rubber ones would reduce recoil. Its tolerable the way it is, at least for me. Plus it shoots good.
