A relative worked somewhere in AK during
his military service building new barracks
in the 50's
I had wanted to move there after school and
be a,part of the pipeline because they were
raking in the dough.
I changed my mind after talking about the
hardships with the intense cold, such as
having to leave the water running and having
to plug in all the different heaters on each
vehicle before turning it off, or you wouldn't
be able to do anything with it until thaw.
Hammers and tools shattering if they
weren't warmed first, tires freezing with
a flat spot, all the frostbite cases, etc. etc.

I changed my mind pretty quickly

              https://taskandpurpose.com/news/wwii-base-adak-aleutian-islands/

..And I was about to suggest to my congressman, that we reopen Adak as a replacement or addition to the prison we already have operating in the Everglades.

Not only would it be harder to escape from, but may act as a deterrent to the anti American bad guys we have running around doing crimes.

The expectation of a life sentence in Adak..may serve some as a deterrent.  Shucks, the federal government already owns it, and there is a town there already built for 6,000, that may need "sprucing up", and is now occupied by about 300.

It also has a good air strip that the baddies can come in non.

Of course, they could also build a new facility on Kodiak or nearby islands.  Then if the bad guys try to escape over land somehow, they can dispute territorial
rights with the kodiaks or grizzlies..   :D ;D
