one of my favorite post Christmas meals
« on: December 27, 2025, 11:01:02 PM »
lots of left over ham. wife made scalloped potatoes and ham for supper last night. great winter comfort meal. now next week ill make my cheesy potato soup. another of my favorites but you have to be careful with that one because it has CALORIES! canned 8 quarts od turkey broth with chunks of turkey yesterday. every holiday i throw the turkey carcass and scraps in the pressure cooker for an hour than slow cook it all night than jar it up and pressure can it. makes great soup thats quick to make. problem is i have about 40 quarts already and the wife thinks im nuts. than the night before i made 5 turkey pot pies out of turkey, gravy and frozen mixeed veggies. another great winter comfort meal.

..Sounds like you made good (and delicious) use out of the Christmas leftovers !  Yes, ham in escalloped potatoes is great "comfort food" along with cheesy potato
soup. ... Perfectly fit for the cold winter days ahead..

Another quick to fix treat when coming in from an icy cold winter, is a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup..

BTW...did you get slammed by that storm on Saturday ?  We didn't get a lot of snow, but we did get some nasty ice, leaving about 1/4" coating of ice over everything.

We're experiencing rain right now, taking away some of the snow, but will likely get the snow shortly after you do.  It will probably create a dangerous mess of snow over an icy base

I had scalloped potatoes and ham for a couple days too. Among other foods. Definitely over ate on Christmas, especially after the sour cherry and blueberry pie.

Have had howling winds here all day, and the wind is still howling. Amazed I haven't lost power. Still calling for wind tomorrow.  I'd rather have a foot of snow instead of this wind. I actually hate when we get a warm day or two this time of year, because behind the warm air is always wind. I'd rather it just stay cold.

the new lineman foreman that replaced me said as of 9pm last night they had been out for 40 hours straight. said they hired some construction lineman to come in so the guys could get some sleep. asked me if i wanted to come out and do a bit of scouting for him in his pickup. i asked how he could pay me and he said there was no way. i laughed and said ill stay warm at home thank you!! one of theb nastiest storms ive seen. not only lots of snow but wet heavy stuff that the 40-50mph winds packed in tight. add to that we just got out of a warm stretch and there was slush under it. my little kubota diesel had all it could handle. heavy crap even broke 2b shear pins

Got hammered last night !  This time along with high winds that really rattled the roof on my back deck. I thought for a moment, something like a  coon or fox had gotten into my back room and was scratching at my door.

Any way; plenty of snow came with it, leaving 4-5 foot drifts and a foot or two, even in the low spots.

This was me this morning...stepping out on my frony deck to shovel snow..  :D ;D        https://www.facebook.com/reel/841696152112678
