We don't do it here in Ohio, but some states your license plate cost goes by what the car is worth. If you buy a new car for $30,000 you might pay $600 or more, then every so many years the value of the car goes down, your license plate gets cheaper. The plates I have on my E-250 cost me $75/year. But, the plates on my van, a 2012, actually were the plates from my previous van, a 2003 E-150. I didn't get new plates, just transferred the old ones to that new one. So the plates are 23 years old, but get a nice new 1''x 2'' sticker every year that goes bottom right on the rear plate, and registration for the glove box. Wonder how much it costs the state to print out those stickers, .50 to a buck maybe? Might not be a tax, but with over 13 million vehicles registered here in Ohio, and many being commercial and paying much more than that $75, they pull in a chunk.
