we bought a second house
« on: Yesterday at 04:38:55 AM »
in my home town about 60 miles away.  nothing fancy just a mobile home on 4 acres of land. something to get away from the summer tourist madhouse here, mostly though to insure my learning disabled son has a place to live if i die. he lives in an apartment here on my property but i dont think my wife could put up with him if i wasnt here.  he will stay in the apartment till something happens to me. it will be titled to him and we paid cash for it so all he will have to do is pay utilities and taxes. it needs a little work. its nice inside but needs paint and all new windows and ill need to build a garage there for my vehicles and toys. i need another garage anyway and would have had to build a third one here either way.

Great to see you found a little refuge to "get away from it all" for a bit, now and then. ..And I salute you for looking out for your son, working to prepare for the future.

I can imagine the tourists you have each summer to the UP, since by the looks of the Google tours I have seen, it looks like a beautiful area ! Of course, as where
I live, that can only be said for 3 of the 4 seasons...  :D ;D

As one who enjoys history, I would like to visit Fort Mackinac some day.

Mackinac island is a complete tourist trap. much cooler spot is the fayette park on the garden peninsula. its a preserved town from back when there was iron ore pig iron smelters all over the UP. its in a bay that is one of the most beautiful places anywhere, the Keweenaw peninsula has some beatiful places that havent been over run too. the eastern end by Detour/Drummond isle is gorgeous too and not over run. im a bit prejudice because thats where we came from. take a boat ride there on the st. marys river and it doesnt get any better, plus some of the best fishing in the midwest. munising was a nice peaceful place when i moved here in 88 but around 2010 some greedy locals got together and advertised and bought every thing they could and turned it into a zoo in the summer so they can fill there pockets. it even drove grocery prices up and gas is always 10 cents a gallon more than even the tiny towns 15 miles away. one stop light in town and mid summer it takes you 3 cycles to get through it. al rentals are seasonal which sucks for local trying to find a place to live. i think we have more campgrounds in a 10 mile radious than anywhere in the midwest. i cant stand even going to town. there such idiots that i quit riding my motorcycles through town. its like they cant read a stop sign!! than the last couple years weve been invaded in the summer by towel heads from deerborn. cant even drive 65 on the highway because theres always 4 or 5 motor homes driving flipping 50 so Martha can look at the trees!!!! there much worse than the teenagers on cell phones!! i think for many its there first time on a 2 lane road. i love blasting by them 80mp hour in 3rd gear in the challenger and cutting in right in front of them. kind of pisses of the old lady though when i go into oh sh-t mode!!!! honestly if it werent for my son wanting to be close to his mother i would have sold this place and moved 10 years ago

Thanks for the tip on the fort !  I am saddened to see how some greedy ones have upset your summers, and it must be especially irritating with the towel heads.

..But if Trump has any success, there may soon be less of them to deal with.  I would certainly not like having them to deal with as neighbors on one of those campgrounds..... I don't need the howling 5 times a day.
