Will go to my dad's grave today. Give thanks to him, and all that served. His DD-214 - Marine Air unit VMF-222. Guadalcanal- Bougainville- Vella Lavella, and probably a few other islands that are not listed. Prey for this country.
We keep trying peace, it usually doesn't work!!Remember(12/7/41)(9/11/01) gypsyman

The very last war the Un-United States actually won. RIP to all that fought that war, and to those still living.

If you look at it from the perspective of the South Koreans, we won that one too.  We weren't trying to take North Korea, just stop them from taking South Korea.

That one was a “police action” that never officially ended.

Well, 70 years later and South Korea is doing pretty well.  North Korea not so much.

I disagree. It was a stalemate that solved nothing. All that was accomplished was a demilitarized zone, and the war was never officially ended. The Un-United States from that time on to the present, has a perfect record. We've lost every war since 1945.

Even if, as you say, it was a stalemate, we didn't lose.  And, it DID solve the problem that the South Koreans were facing.

Myself, and history disagree with you. Over 2 million people died in that war, and nobody won. Including the Un-United states. Korea is still divided into north, and south, there was never any type of agreement signed between the two, and there was never any type of armistis signed between North and South Korea, or the Un-United States.
The Un-United States won zero decisions in that war.

Say what you will, but South Korea is a prosperous free country 70 years later.  If we had lost, it would look like North Korea.  Hell, it would be North Korea.

There's been no open fighting in 70 years, so why would I be concerned about "officially" ending?

So why would you be concerned about a 70 year  old war that was commondeered by the United Nation where the Un-United States was only a participant, no winner was declared? The thread was about WWII in the 1st place. You brought Korea up, I didn't.  :)

Come on Dee.  I wasn't the one who jumped in and said the US hasn't won a war since WWII.  So, you kind of did bring it up.   ;)

LOL, no, I didn't bring up Korea, you did. But honestly Casull, the Un-United States joined the war, assisting the United Nations.
There was no victory for anyone, unless you call over 2 million killed a victory. . The country of Korea is still divided, neither claimed victory, and neither did the Un-United States, nor do the history books. The country was divided when it started, and is divided today. Your the only one saying the Un-United States won.
Try as you might, you can't make a silk purse, out of a sows ear. The Un-United States gave up, and went home. They've been doing that since 1945..

For a time, it was a horrible war. I was going to say hell on earth and to some it seemed so, I could see how that could be debated if taken in a biblical way. I’ve read a bit on it and talked to some of the combatants.

That IMO was a testing ground, a battle of limited warfare where the worlds heavyweights battled it out on someone else’s land.

I'd say they've been testing it way too long, and should realize it ain't workin.

I have to differ... Not a stalemate..  North Korea sought to take over South Korea.  The UN got involved to stop The north, no aim to take their land..

A big mess sure, but war always is.  In the end, the border was reinstituted and reinforced.

If nobody had come to South Korea's aid, the whole peninsula would be under the thumb of evil communism.

Then we would hjave no Hyundai's, Kias, Kiotis or Komatsus... :D ;D
