I see the Secretary of war has moved to tighten up grooming, weight and fitness standards for the Army. They must have slid badly from what the Army traditionally demanded .
Traditionally, the Army demanded that their soldiers maintain levels of grooming, weight and fitness.. Back when I served, either you kept your weight in check and passed the PT tests .....or you had to look for a civilian job. Marines the same..but since Pete mentioned only the Army, perhaps the Marines have kept their standards.
I don't know about the other branches...
