Springfield Armorys Garrison Model 1911

Any body got one? Done some work for a gun shop owner on a new Colt 1911 in 38 Super. I had recently acquired a Kimber Pro Carry and was telling him how hard it was for my antique ass to rack the slide on it, and was thinking about going to a full size government model.
As partial payment for my work on his 38 Super, he agreed to trade straight across my used Kimber for a new in the box Springfield "Garrison" model, and some higher end 45 carry ammo.
The Garrison Model reminds me a lot of Colts old Series 70s when they made pistols that had real workmanship and quality.
I broke the pistol down at the counter before the trade, and Springfield made this one right. Its quality inside and out.

newer springfield 1911's are great guns. one from the 80s and earlier were a pos. at least the ones i owned and shot.

Don't own one.
Shot a friend's new Springfield 1911, and it
reminds me of a 70's Gold Cup I'd shot.
Very accurate. Well made barrel.
The Colt Officer's I had was a dream to
carry, and never had an FTF or malfunction
of any kind, but the accuracy was never
there.  The foreign-made XD Springfield
that I replaced it with is very accurate at
70's Gold Cup level

Weeellll, I decided I'd rather have the stainless version and told my gun dealer to order me one. All he could get was the Garrison Engraver which means the slide has no names or the logo on it. Fails to go into battery were the order of the day. About 4 per 8 round magazine, where the round chambers in front of the extractor. Thats not good.
So! Got the tool box out and tore the pistol completely down. Done the usual polishing, lightened the trigger to about 3.5 pounds and some other stuff I've always done to 1911s.
I reshaped the extractor and think thats the culprit. It was extremely tight on a loaded round so I adjusted the tension. When I get finished feeding in the morning, I've got 7 magazines (58 rounds) of ball and carry rounds to run  through it. Got my fingers crossed I get it right the 1st time.

Well maybe it'll go.
I've always been a 1911 fan and still have
my not-quite-a- Remington Rand, but I
haven't carried or used it much since I
got it back from the evidence building
downtown after it was stolen.
I need to tear it apart and see if any
friends ( that are still alive) still
have a bead blaster and take it
back to metal and get what's-his-name
i( if he's still alive) to run it through
his tanks for a black redo.
I like the plastic XD and how accurate
it is,  but I  can say without self incrimination
that a good 1911 will administer a
backhanded attitude adjustment and not
break into pieces. I haven't had very many
plastic pistols, and I wouldn't risk one
finding out.
A Detective Special will also make an
" impression " when it needs to

Way back in the 70s I had a nickel detective special i wish I had back. Gonna run a box through the 1911 this mornin, and hopefully got it working right.

I had a decent Detective Special some
years back, and wanted the dull military
finished version that I'd found a primo
example of ( Commando, Commando
Special?)
Don't recall exactly what I did, but the
matte finished gun deal fell through
and I ended up with no Detective Special.
I did come up with an Agent with the
factory add-on rowdy colt logo hammer
shroud that I jealously guard. Good
pocket carry gun.
Some company sells a doppelganger
of a Detective Special, but I can't recall who.
I'd like to have had my late buddy's Combat
Commander series 70, I'm not sure where
it ended up after he passed.

Well,  I was right about the extractor. Springfield had put way too much tension on it. I re-tuned it yesterday, and it ran like a Swiss watch this mornin. My carry ammo is the obscenely expensive Hornady "Critical Duty" 220 grain hp advertised at 990 fps. It now feeds that perfectly.
