Soy lecithin

Seems to be a debate about whether or not this is a healthy food additive or not. Used as a emulsifier in foods, some claim health benefits while others claim it to be extremely harmful. What gives?

honestly and not to spark a debate but at my age i quit worrying about if something will do me harm 15 years from now. if you gave up all chemicals and proceesed foods youd be in the garden chewing on a head of lettuce and id rather be worm food

I actually had to look up soy lecithin just to see what it was.
I remember when the government back in the 60s was lecturing everybody to not eat butter that margarine was healthier..
Years later we learned that margarine was actually developed to fatten turkeys faster. The side affects were: It killed the turkeys. It wasn't real food and the turkeys body didn't know what to do with it.
Rather than waste all that research and development they made up a theory that it was safer than natural butter.
Trouble is,  the human body doesn't know what to do with it either,  and it cloggs up the arteries.

This  soy lecithin sounds like something that needs avoiding.

I believe that the internet answers are many times paid for by groups who stand to profit from misinformation and lead the pack. I also believe this product is unhealthy yet posed as healthy just like asbestos was the best thing for everything until it wasn’t.

I am allergic to soy and soy products.  Hard to find stuff without soy in it.  Italian dressing for instance is supposed to have part OLIVE oil and part vinegar.  Well in most products olive oil was replaced by soybean oil.  Home made with olive oil actually tastes better.  Why soy?

I also make my own Italian with less olive oil then in most recipes. Makes a great chicken, pork or deer marinade.

we use olive oil about exclusively anymore. not really because its more healthy but for the taste. to bad its so expensive!!

Linda and I got away from all those cookin oils years ago and use olive oil only. People further south where I'm from fry things like catfish in peanut oil, but we switched to the olive oil and found the catfish tasted much better.

I still have some vegetable oil but I never use it...  :-\  I use Olive oil most of the time 'cept for deep frying.  Then I use Peanut oil.

I also have some vegetable oil and use it to season my grill. Extra virgin olive oil, butter and animal fats are my go to cooking oils, mostly olives oils…

I use olive oil in my salad dressing, but I actually think peanut oil tastes better for frying.  And, it has a higher burn temperature.

     We have olive oil and she used it, often, but I rarely use it; I switch from various lards, corn oil, sunflower oil, peanut oil and avacado oil.
I always have bacon fat and oil mixed with chicken fat; when I fry some thing in deeper oil, I always save the oil.
I have not cooked  a goose or duck for quite  a bit that grease was Always saved

We fry with olive oil only, and have eliminated corn oil, peanut oil, and and every other vegetable from our diet. Years ago we cooked our catfish, and other fish in peanut oil, but through reading and other sources, decided our bodies/digestive systems didn't know what to do with that much heavier vegetable oil.
It costs more deap frying catfish in virgin olive oil, but  we think it's healthier, and prefer the cleaner, lighter taste.

Well I planned on cooking all weekend butt, just stopped working as I realized it was Sunday so I’m relaxing and going to try and reflect on better things. A bit late to get the porterhouse steaks out of the freezer so tomorrow we’ll have them. Pretty much use extra virgin olive oil although the brand I used doubled in price, tried a couple others and landed on bertolli, more expensive even then the one I was using but I like it. Cutting back on unhealthy foods as much as I want, which isn’t enough depending on who you ask. Happy Sunday…

it's also a commodity crop which is
why the gubmint pushes soy products
so much.
I was "discussing " this yesterday, but
about high fructose corn syrup, and
how it damages people's health and
has significantly raised diabetes rates
in my lifetime, not to mention the other
detrimental effects to human health.
I was also mentioning about the gubmint
people ( specifically RFK) was railing
against "sugary " drinks and "sugary "
snacks and other stuff despite the
widespread nearly total use of high
fructose corn syrup in the food industry.
I also pointed out that NONE of the
most popular cold drinks have any
cane sugar. They all have HFCS.
Coca Cola, Sprite, Pepsi, Dr Pepper,
7UP, etc. etc. all have NO cane sugar
and are sweetened with HFCS.
Is HFCS better than cane sugar?
No No No. It doesn't taste any better
either.  It's used because it's cheaper.
and because the HFCS is made
here from American corn.
And 90%+ of ALL American corn
is GMO. Closer to 100% the last
time I checked. And of course
corn has been a commodity since
Noah was a toddler
Yeah,  might as well eat whatever you
want to because if you don't get
it one way you'll get it another

And cane sugar if you can even get this soda. I’ll hang on to my sugar and lemons for now. I’ve heard there are other drinks on the market with natural ingredients for health reasons. It would be interesting to do a dive into this subject, beats the hell out of discussing those creatures with man buns, nose rings and pink hair.

( unless something has changed) When you're
talking store bought commercially produced
lard, you're right back in the ditch full of soy.
Hogs are raised with a diet of soy and corn
( 90% + of the nation's corn is GMO) and
lard is processed with soy lecithin and
hydrogenated oils ( soybean oil) and other
junk.
It's hard to run away from soy and GMO corn
and HFCS these days. Lots of laboratory
sweeteners and preservatives, sodium benzoate,
sodium bisulphate, etc. etc. etc.

The best there is.   Fantastic for french fries and deep frying .
I buy some every now and then, or render t make my own.

I think it’s steak and shake that is going back to lard for their fries and such. While I do use some animal fats/ lard the jury is still out for me as I’m still studying it. I do believe that some of the oils etc are much worse than lard IMO.

If you want good fried taters and such, either buy
some clean beef grease or buy some beef tallow
and render it and pour it off into a clean jar.
It's the best grease for that
