Zohan Mamdani New York City Mayor
« on: July 30, 2025, 11:54:17 PM »
New York City voters are absolute idiots. This guy Mamdani is so obviously communist a monkey with a 3rd grade education could see it.
And then you have 3 other also rans to split the opposition vote to ensure Mamdani WILL WIN.
Since Jiuliani the mayors of NYC have successfully brought the city farther and farther down.

BUT, WITH THE PROMISES OF GOVERNMENT OWNED GROCERY STORES,  AND THE POLICE BEING REPLACED WITH "SOCIAL WORKERS", WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?

I have seen people being interviewed on the streets of NY. Some of them older men like in their 60's, and they were giving reasons why they are voting for the communist Muslim. One would think the older generation would have some sense about them, but no. Not in NY. If he is elected, which it looks like he will be. NYC will turn into a city worse than Detroit.

I'm thinkin he'll win and NYC will continue to go down hill. The old movie Escape From NYC may go from fiction to reality.

Do either of you guys live in NYC?
I have lived in Brooklyn for most of my adult life. Mayors do not change much of what happens on a day to day basis. Life in NYC has tremendous inertia. It takes major major events - like 9/11 - to make much of a difference in day to day life.

  The city whose residents seem to think is the center of the world !  What a crock of crap !

  I have only been there twice, once when I shipped out overseas and the other time when I returned.. It was a disgusting experience, both ways.. and they are at present, displaying their ignorance.

   It seems one could pick 180 New York City voters..and find 144 immovable Democrats... a solid case of "gross ignorance" !

  NY City has a minimum of 65% democrats, while my home county is at least the reverse.  I suspect it would be 85% Republican, if there were not quite so many like myself; being independent, simply because the Republicans are not conservative enough.

 The father of our country in his farewell address, warned us about political parties..    .He said;

   that the spirit of party "serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection".

   ....And I have a feeling that there are many residents of California, Washington State, Oregon , Michigan and Minnesota..feel the same as I do !

No Never been in NYC, and never will be. Always have had zero desire to go there.  Give Mamdani a couple years there with his communist ideas, and no one will be singing the song "I Love New York" anymore.

So your saying that you've grown accustomed to living in a violent, corrupt crap-hole sanctuary city.  :-\

  Mayors don't change much what goes on in the city ?  I would expect  some collateral damage if just two of his ideas..

   1) Defund police, and replace them with psychological counsellors..

   and ..

  2) launch government grocery stores.

  Now, he just had a mass shooting in Manhattan..and another one in Queens.  Do you really think this new commie mayoral candidate, by sending in counsellors instead of police, would have avoided any injuries or deaths ?

 So far as government stores are concerned..lots of luck..but Stalin, Fidel and Pol Pot would be proud.. of course they are all dead though..

  Kansas city, MO tried such a store, and it was a failure beyond all expectations...  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkJYUQkYkp0

  One councilwoman wanted to give the store $1.2 millon, just to keep it going...after the $17 million original set up cost..

  I doubt NY City would do any better..but they can still throw taxpayers millions in ..just to keep it afloat..  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZoaZ8Ladpk

No, that is not at all what I am saying.
Life in NYC has some serious downsides; it’s true. These are the things that you focus on,

ignoring the many good things that we who live here have at our fingertips. I am not going to write a guidebook for NYC. It has been my experience that most people who criticize life in NYC have not lived it.
Violence. Sure. There are, however , worse places (on the State level Texas far outpaces NY in terms of mass shooting)
 Reading through posts from you guys one gets the impression that living in NYC means that violence is everywhere and that a person takes a great risk stepping out the door. That is not correct. The quality of life is excellent and getting better.

Trump really can't do much for the cities like NY that are run by leftist mayors.

Electing a devout Muslim/communist mayor in NYC won't change the day to day life for New Yorkers. New Yorkers seem to like left wing gimmiedat mayors that like watching the citizenry bleed out. So I guess we'll see, because it sure looks like they're gonna get to find out.
The upside is I get to watch from a safe distance.  8)

I went to NYC one time and only one time, out of NJ, crossing into NY by the most southern bridge, a Big bridge it was too.  Twelve of sixteen (12 of 16) inbound and outbound lanes were ALL GOING IN THE SAME DIRECTION on a calm and peaceful Sunday morning about 7:30 a.m. As we rounded a curve just off of the bridge, SIX (6) INBOUND LANES were stopped, FOUR (4) INBOUND LANES were backing up at 45 mph(!) and exiting the highway.

I elected to exit right then.  Now, traveling below the elevated bridge, we made our way through the city.  There were many No U - Turn signs.  Then, suddenly, to me anyway, a tunnel to NJ loomed ahead and No U - Turn.  So, I became the Ugly American from Florida, stopped the car, and made a U - Turn back into the city.

Finding a pleasant drive along the waterfront, we got closer and closer to Ellis Island and decided to take the walking ferry over to the Statue of Liberty.  A kind parking attendant steered us to FREE parking three streets over in a clean and secure area.  There was no line for ferry ticketing to the island.

We spent several hours on the island and returned.  The line on the city-side to board the ferry had grown to five blocks long.  Street performers were showing off for gratuties.  We got in the car, drove through the tunnel, and went back to our uncle's accommodations in Elizabeth City.

I won't go back again, because I don't have to.  And yes, my reasoning is ENTIRELY due to the city's persona as depicted on TV and the nightly news.

You keep it.  I don't want it.  I'll take the peace of mind in a rural setting where I can legally carry every day and twice on Sunday.

  From DG;

  "  Life in NYC has tremendous inertia. It takes major major events - like 9/11 - to make much of a difference in day to day life."

  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  I understand and respect much of what you offer here on GBO, but there seems to be a gulf between NY City mind frame across much of the rest of America.
  Yes NYC has inertia, but in the view of most of America geographically, it seems to move in an opposite direction.
  You say it takes an event as catastrophic as the Islamic attack upon the WTC to get it moved in a new direction.  ..But here we are just 24 years hence, and the voters of 'Gotham' seem ready to elect a follower of Islam as their LEADER !
  Another quote..not to ridicule, but to point out the difference in thought patterns between NYC and much of the country outside the NYC ring of influence:
  "ignoring the many good things that we who live here have at our fingertips. I am not going to write a guidebook for NYC. It has been my experience that most people who criticize life in NYC have not lived it."
  I can understand how you may feel that there are "many good things that NYC residents have at their fingertips".  This only points out the subtle mind frame differences between suburban and especially rural dwellers..and the big city types.
  Speaking for myself, I assume you are referring to Broadway shows, big sports stadiums/games, and various crowded, celebratory venues.,  Such events, in which
   I personally find little or no value.
  NYC seems to boast of their Central Park...but I have many equivalents of Central Park just a couple hundred yards from my rear doorstep !  ...And that without the occasional danger, the artificiality and still being allowed to be bearing one of my guns without interference.
   We out here do not wish to dictate how city residents must live....so long as they don't use our tax money to do so; but conversely the politicians of major cities are continually trying to dictate our chosen lifestyles.
  A further benefit of our way of life....is to have more than a nodding acquaintance with neighbors 1,2 or 5 mile from our home, and having the near neighbors keep a
  protective eye on our domiciles while we are gone.
  Honestly, I have no desire to visit any of the large cities..nor for any reason that I can fathom.  I sometimes must travel to nearby cities (e.g. VA services), but it is i
  "in-and-out" as quickly and quietly as possible.
  Not condemning those who prefer the urban setting, just pointing out the differences...and still wondering at the source of the attraction.
