starvation wages!! what a joke!! always said sports players wages should be capped at a 100k! making millions for PLAYING A GAME is ludicrous!!

a good many here worked hard and even dangerous jobs and never made 75K!! these elitist  athletes that think theyre better than us make my blood boil!! i loved playing baseball. i would have gladly gone pro for the same wages i made beating my boddy up as a lineman and sat in her 8k rental instead of 50 feet in the air in a lightning storm or blizzard!!

Sports figures are paid according to gate receipts. The gate receipts come from sports worshipers whom eat, live, and breathe whatever sport they're addicted to.
The sports worshipers are the ones I don't understand. They'll pay outrageous amounts of money for tickets, jerseys, caps, and other paraphernalia for their particular game. And their favorite athlete is their role model/hero.
People make these athletes rich, just like they make movie actors/actresses fabulously wealthy, and the sports athletes, just like the movie actors can be real shitheads, but folk will ignore that and see them as role models.
Most pro athletes are bankrupt after a 7 year retirement, and John Wayne was a draft dodging womanizer booed off of WWII USO stages by soldiers, but folks ignore the obvious.

agreed. i dont follow any sports anymore. my wife though is a detroit lions fan. her son and wife flew all the way from CA to here then they paid gas and for 2 hotel rooms and drove to detroit and paid a 150 buck a crack ticket prices (nose bleed cheap seats!) just to watch a game i would watch at home on a tv for free. they offered to take me too and i laughed like they knew i would. her other son who lives near detroit has 2 season tickets and im afraid to ask what that costs him every year while my wife pays a student loan for half his college!! makes my blood boil but its her money!!

I agree with all said here. Paying a grown man huge sums to play with a ball is absurd. Talent? Sure they’re talented, but what do they actually offer society? A couple hours of entertainment. And so many are absolutely NOT role models for our young. I wonder how many would stay and play if their salaries were cut in half. Makes me wonder what’s missing in a culture that pays so much for entertainment; sports, cinema and music. Can’t go out for a meal without being subjected to one sort or another blasting on televisions on the walls.

Rome had the same problems in all aspects, and we all know how that went.

  Same the world over;

  Sports figures, singers, musicians, baseball players, football players, actors and celebrities in general are each overly admired by select segments of our society.

  For instance, i can't imagine parting with hundreds of bucks, and go through all th ecrowd and hassle, to attend a show or sporting event...that I could often watch for free on TV, if I so desired.

  Then for folks to hold such admiration for such millionaires... sometimes difficult to fathom..but the wisdom of Mark Twain may help... ;) ;D

  "He who does well at that which we admire, becomes a hero in our eyes,"   (Mark Twain)

    A further statement by Twain;
       “Unconsciously we all have a standard by which we measure other men, and if we examine closely we find that this standard is a very simple one, and is this: we admire them, we envy them, for great qualities we ourselves lack. Hero worship consists in just that. Our heroes are men who do things which we recognize, with regret, and sometimes with a secret shame, that we cannot do. We find not much in ourselves to admire, we are always privately wanting to be like somebody else. If everybody was satisfied with himself, there would be no heroes.

 These people are in a class by themselves. Put her right in with Colin Kapernick , Megan Rapinoe, LeBron James and quite a few more. See where their cancelling Colbert because their losing 40 million a year on his program. Got a feeling by the end of Trumps term, we're going to see a lot more of these type's of business decisions taking place. How many years can Disney, Hollywood and retail business's keep losing billions and not do something to change the course?
We keep trying peace, it usually doesn't work!!Remember(12/7/41)(9/11/01) gypsyman
