Any suppressor update?
« on: June 29, 2025, 06:02:21 AM »
Started this thread in the Class111 /NFA  section, but hoping it might get more attention here. (Hope that's ok with Graybeard) In Trumps BBB there was a part that took suppressors off the BATF federal control, took away the $200 tax stamp. Just read yesterday, maybe the day before, a Democrat legislator took that part out of the bill because she said it wasn't right and broke some law. Supposedly a couple of the Republicans were going to re-write that differently so it's (legal)! Anyway, just wondering if anybody has caught wind of what's going on with that part of the bill.

Haven't heard anything. The"parlementarian" that did that, smacks of activist judges that we just stopped with a SCOTUS ruling.

So far as I know, the version of the bill passed by the Senate just removes the $200 tax from suppressors and SBRs, but leaves the rest of the regulation and registration in place so it could pass muster with the Parliamentarian's application of the Byrd Rule.

There's still a (remote) chance they could be removed completely from the NFA before the bill is passed, but it's far more likely that only the tax itself gets removed.

So does that mean you could buy one like a firearm, here in Ohio, show my CCW and DL, fill out a 4473, pay the dealer and take it home?

I don't really have a need for suppressor, but I don't think it's any of the governments business whether anyone owns one. But then again I don't believe it is any of the governments business if someone wants to own a gun. Of any kind.

I hope a National carry law is passed. Its ridiculous that you can't carry into some states.

I don't travel much anymore, just here in Texas, and up around Red River New Mexico 2 or 3 times a year. I doubt that some of the northern states will ever recognize individual carry.

it will be a tough sell in states like CA MN IL, NY and the new england states but i guess they have the same right to decide for themselves as the rest of the country. the vocal people against it are the same that scream state rights over federal rights all the time here or want to turn everything into a civil war battle. I dont worry about it, i have no need to travel through any of those states, back when we did cross country motorcycle rides we just went around ill and NM. it was vacation and we werent in any hurry,. if you live in one of those states i feel for you a little but were all older and have had decades to pack up and leave. Feel about the same with the border states. If illegals were invading my county and crime was going through the roof why would i want to live there? You can always move back if it gets straightened out but the fact is life on the border states will never get back to pre biden conditions. nice and peaceful here. very little crime. virtually no mexicans or blacks and i can conceal carry or open carry. Trees and water everywhere with access to the public for 90% of it and i can shoot or hunt deer and bear in my back yard if i want. doubt that is the way it is with ANY of the border states.

I've been wondering how the "no permit needed" bill is coming along. Of course, I have a state permit already...but hope this bill if passed, would open up my choice to carry while I travel.

Sad; but I always have to take into account, the ignorance of the politicians in far off Albany or NY City, and how they can still connive ways to limit honest citizen's rights out here where I live.
