Young Martin's Reels
« on: Yesterday at 04:39:49 PM »
I have no need at all for another fishing reel, BUT, I go snooping in Ebay, or just put a search in the search engine, some times to see what is there that really appeals to me, and how much old reels I have sell for.
I have a very old Shakespeare 1795 spincast that Uncle Ed gave me approx. 60 years ago, and just wanted to see if there was information on it online.
Well; I came across this site on from YouTube.

I had intended to send some of the reels I really like and would use in for repair, in Wisc. , but that not cheap any more, and this gent has this YouTube video on how to disassembe and clean the reel I have, plus many others reels I have.
SO; I did some snooping for reel cleaning products and by chance found an article on product that has a sample box of all one needs to clean and reoil/grease reels.
So I bought it.
       Anyway:

YoungMartin'sReels

Young Martin's Reels was created to honor my dad, Martin B Stivers of Louisville KY.
I have undertaken the task of learning how to repair and service fishing reels of all types and sizes. Join us in the journey of discovery. We disassemble round and low-profile bait casters, spinning, spin cast, even some automatic fly reels, salt water and fresh water. Am I always successful? No, but more times than not I'm able, with the help of my viewers, to get many of these old relics back to life. It is a fun adventure of learning

I an posting the video I first found to show how precise he is about reel repair, plus another as putting his title in YouTube search one finds he has a LOT of videos on disassembling and redoing many old reels, a lot of which I had for gotten about or did not know existed.
                                                                                                                                 Shakespeare 1795

Here is a reel I have never seen or heard of before and when he opens it up it is fascinating what is really is
                                                                                                                                 Shakespeare Javelin

There is another such site: - Fish-N-Thingz
Fishing with Vintage Rods & Reels 4: Berkley Fish-N-Fold (1977) & Popeil Pocket Fisherman (1972)

They do a Lot of old reels that I saw in magazines but never saw the real deal.
They also when repairing give the years it was produced, and separate the Chinese version from those Made in the U.S.A.
This stuff takes me back to when I was a young and learning some thing every day.
