Just Picked Up A Marlin 99
« on: May 02, 2025, 11:41:00 AM »
It had some screws missing, and appeared to have not been cleaned in many years.  The model was made between 1959 & 1960 and thought it outta be worth the $100.00 I paid for it.
I've replaced the screws missing, tightened up the dovetail for the rear sight, straightened the rear sight, and replaced the missing rear sight elevator.
After tearing it completely apart using a wire brush, solvent, and carburetor cleaner on it, I was pleasantly surprised to see it shoot and feed smoothly.
The magazine feeding tube didn't look like brass anymore, and didn't go into or outta the magazine tube very well but, a cleaning rod and a 9mm bronze barrel brush with solvent cleaned that out nicely, and after putting the feeding tube into a drill and running it up and down in a rag with polishing compound it looks new, and works the same.
Tomorrow I'll take it to the ranch with me and zero it.

$100.00 for the rifle, plus parts, I now have $100.13 in a very usable 22 rifle.  8)
