Hey guys, i am new here and was just wondering what all of you guys use for handgun hunting. I am looking into getting a Ruger Redhawk in .44 Mag, and scoping it with a red dot.

a blackhawk hunter, and a tc contender with a 30-30 barrel + leupold 2x, contender 44 magnum, raging bull 454, ruger mark 1 and sometimes even my kimber 45.  i, like alot of folks here, like to hunt with different rigs on different days.  it is nice to have options.

Here's what will be replacing my .41 BH.  Top is a .45 Hunter lower is a 45 Bisley (one of the Acusport Eds)

I've shot the Redhawks with dots and it was a very nice setup.  Personally, I don't care for a DA revolver for hunting since more than likely, the shot will be in SA mode.  However, 2 each his own, right?  The Redhawks are super strong.  Good luck!

My primary firearm for Illinois whitetails is a TC Contender.  It will either wear a 10" 357 Max, 10" 300 Whisper, or 14" 44 Mag depending on my mood.  I use Nikon 2X or Burris 2-7X scopes on these barrels.

For Deer, it's my 357 Blackhawk.

For everything else, it's a toss up between the Blackhawk, and my Single Six.

Looks like we have similar taste in handguns, but mine are both 44s and the Hunters a Bisley also.   :-) I'v got a Millet Redot but haven't tried it out yet.

Mostly a T/C in .309JDJ.  Next whitetail with it will be #50 for that gun.  As far as revolvers go. it would have to be my FA .454 or .475.  The .475 is edging most the others out currently.

Mainly a Freedom Arms Premier 7.5" in 454 Casull

I just bought another SBH in 44 (old model) and I bought but haven't picked up yet a new SBH Hunter in 41 Magnum.  I'll try these two new ones out this year also.  I always come back to the 454 though.  Loaded right, you can take anything that walks.  I like the fact that it can be loaded up or down to fit your needs.  I have some 255 cast bullets that go about 1150 plinkers or I have some 260 cast that move over 1900.  I mainly hunt with 300 XTP magnums at 1625.  Devastating to deer here in MS.  GS

Dan Wesson 744 (44mag.) with an Ultra Dot. I myself tried the single action hand guns but, I like and shoot the double actions lot better. To each his own.  Hippie

It'd be the same Ruger OM Blackhawk in .41Magnum I've had since the early '60s. It's taken everything from armadillo to Wapiti and even kept a mean old range cow off me. I'd rather give up my left testicle than this revolver.  8)

I have a number of handguns that I use to hunt with depending on where, how and what I hunt.  In the last four or five years I have killed more of my deer with a Contender, 14 inch barrel, 357 Max than anything else.  Squirrels, snakes and one coyote gave it up to a Ruger MK II .22 LR.

TC Encore Stainless in 7mm Remington Bench Rest, 15 inch barrel with leupold red dot 1X optical sight. Considering adding a 12 inch .454 Casull for when I get the oportunity to go after Russian Boar or Feral "Hawgs" :cb2:

My all time favorite deer hunter is my S&W 629 PP with red dot scope. Just love that 44mag. This year I didn't carry it(used a Ruger SRH with 2x) and didn't even see a deer with it. Shot one with a 308 Encore. Second favorite is Contender 309 JDJ. Probably my third favorite is my FA Model 83 454 even though haven't shot anything with it, it's just a matter of time.

SRH in .454 Casull with a Tasco 1.5 - 5 scope. Don't laugh at the scope it gets an average of 2.25 inch groups at 100 yds.
