All of this world record stuff is confusing. Is there some sort of prerequisite that the fish be released or something? If I caught a 22lb. bass, it would be on my sturdiest wall. I know that you can have replicas made and all, but a world record? I release all of my bass. I kept the largest one of my life (6lbs.) and had it mounted about a year ago. What's the deal with weighing it and releasing it? Are they so over Zealous about catch and release that they would deprive someone of a record holder status because they kept a fish? Just sort of curious, I never really thought about it because the odds of me catching that fish are worse than hitting the lottery.    Thanks. :?

No you don't have to release the bass to claim a record.  It is a personal choice to release or mount your Bass.  I have two wall mounts and both are replicas of my two (15+ lbs. and 17+ lbs.) largest bass.  From the REAL fish mounts I have seen, they do not look so good after a few years so that is why I went to replications.  To me they look better longer.  But I agree that if I caught the new World Record Bass you can bet it would end up on my wall between two replicas of it and although I do not like to have my picture taken, there would be plenty of those up there too.  Lawdog

A world record bass is worth over $1,000,000.00 Dollars and a new state record is worth around $100,000.   I think I have a better chance of catching a new state record before I'm done fishing I hope too anyway.

The problem is Lawdog's state record may very well be the world record.  :D
