.22 lr revolver (Tracker)
« on: March 24, 2004, 11:29:26 AM »
Who here has the Tracker in .22lr.  I've been wanting a DA .22lr for quite some time.  My first choice is a S&W 17 or 617, but I haven't had much luck in finding one that I want.  I don't much care for the Taurus 94, but I haven't really given the Tracker much of a look.  I did handle one in the local shop, and the trigger was pretty heavy on it.

I had one but sold it. While it shot nicely, It was too barrel heavy for my tastes. It had no recoil whatsoever though...was like shooting a staple gun.  8)

I have an old 4" Model 94 that I bought back in 89' which I believe is either the 1st  or 2nd year they were made.  Anyway, I love it.  It's not a serious target gun due to it's short barrel and light weight but it is still very accurate for what it is. After a lot of shooting the trigger has smoothed up nicely. A lot of bricks of promotional ammo has gone thru it over the years with out a hitch.  It is a great pack gun and plinker.  If your not looking for a true target gun give the 94 another look.

My Tracker is a 17 not a 22, but I have no complaints with it.  The 17 produces quite a bark in this reolver but not much recoil.

Big point on buyinmg a Taurus, give it a through examination before buying.  If you have to send it back, the warantee service has a weak reputation.

Excellent advice on buy any gun in my experience.  Almost all have a lemon now and then and they are only good for lemonaid

Look down the bore with a piece of white paper to relflect light if you don't have a bore light.  Check the barrel/Cylinder gap etc.  And take a good look at the crown.  Often a gun that doesn't shoot well is poorly crowned and nothing else is wrong.    I have a friend with a .357 Taurus that shoots very well indeed but have seen others not do nearly as good.

I bought a M 94 in .22 for my wife and it shoots very well.  Unfortunately, the trigger is very heavy and so is the hammer if she wants to shoot single action.  Her thumb was getting very sore from the heavy hammer and the sharp hammer checkering.

I had my model 920 for about a year and never had a problem until last week.

I was shooting it off the bench in single action when I dropped the hammer on the third shot, the round did not go off, the cylinder is locked up, the hammer will not stay back and the trigger does nothing.  :x

It's going back to the factory next week.

They're not bad guns if you don't plan on shooting them a lot.  I put a ton of ammo through mine and I don't think they will handle heavy use.
