Hello fellas. First time poster here.
I've been reading in for a few days, and its time to join the group.
I'm looking at buying a (you guessed it) TC Encore.
I like the stainless/ composite, and looking at 7mm-08. I currently shoot a ruger 1 in .300 weatherby, but I love the look and feel of the encore.
Any advise on caliber selecting, or any problems I should know about.
Thanks Ken

Welcome Kcarp.  :D

I have an Encore in 7m-08.  The 1st barrel had major problems but Thompson sent me a replacement and this one shoots great.  I am sure you will enjoy your.  I would order a Sims recoil pad right off though.  Even in a light caliber like the 7m-08, with the sythetic stock, it will have quite a bit of recoil.

I think you will be happy with the Encore in 7mm-08. I bought a 209 x 50 stainless, synthetic, used - and liked it.  Then I had to have a center fire to put on it.  I ordered a 7mm-08 24'' heavy barrel from the TC custom shop.  The 7-08 had a little recoil so I made a thumb hole monte carlo stock and put a sims pad on it.   I haven't been sorry.  I would get a .223 also but when I am driving over the farm to go deer hunting I haul a 700 Rem in .223 just in case a coyote jumps up.  Coyotes don't hang around long enough for me to swap barrels on the Encore and I usually need more than one shot on a running coyote.
Good Luck - I hope you will be as happy with your encore as I am.

Thanks fellas. I was at the range the other day, and a guy had camo\stainless encore in 7mm with a 50 cal ml barrel.
I guess if the 7mm-08 has a good shove the 50 cal with 150 grains of bp and a 350 grain slug would roll you right out of the saddle.

What Ive found about the Encore is that it does give you a good shove, but any gun weighing 6.5 pounds firing full house loads from cartridges like the 7mm-08, 06 Sprg, .308 and such will.  But what is nice is the recoil is more shove like rather than pounding like.  Maybe it has something to do with the more pronounced pistol grip stock.  My first time out shooting my 06 I put 60 rounds through it.  My shoulder was sore the next day, yes, but it was not so bad.  I still went ahead and bought a second stock that I epoxied in 5 pounds of lead shot with.  But that was more so I could concentrate on shooting and not worry about recoil at all (plus someday Im getting the .375H&H bbl and that stock will be the saving grace  :) .)

I have only shot 100 gr of trip 7 or pyrodex in my ss 209 x 50...  and so far I haven't needed to (or wanted to) shoot more.  The recoil is much less than  3.5'' turkey loads shot out of my Mossberg ultra mag.   I have taken numerous elk with a TC hawken and 90 gr. of pyro behind a 385 gr. Hornady lead bullet.  A couple of things I don't do is sneak up behind a kicking horse or pull the trigger on my muzzle loader wearing nothing but a T shirt.  I don't notice the recoil when hunting but I sure do at the range.  good hunting

I haven't shot that caliber but if you match the gun to the game you can't go wrong.  You can always weight the stock when at the range and one big thump when you are shooting at game probably won't be noticed.  I like to shoot a lot and the less recoil, the more I like it.   I only shoot my light weight 3.5 in. turkey gun about two or thee times a year but I carry it a lot.  I put up with the punishing recoil for ease of carrying and the added killing range.   I did put shot in the stock when I was patterning the gun to find the right choke and shells.  If I was going after large or dangerous game, recoil would not be a consideration.

SGTT, look at the post titled "Holy Heavy Buttstock batman" That I posted not too long ago.  It will tell you about the second synthetic stock I bought and epoxied in lead shot into.  Since you wont be looking at a lot of rounds down the bbl in the field you keep your regular stock for out in the woods.  When at the bench the 5lbs extra will cut recoil CONSIDERABLY.  You can have fun and keep your shoulder in one piece too  :-D .

No worse than the 375 Win kicks in a pistol I cannot imagine it being that bad in a rifle.  But then again I do not think that the 209x50 with 100 grains kicks bad either.

Welcome Kcarp!

My .03 (inflation) would be to put a nice Boyd's laminate stock on that bad bear when you get it (cause ya' know ya' gotta have it). It's not too heavy to carry in the field, but heavier than a synthetic for better felt recoil, and pretty to boot! I've got one on my Encore that I use with .308, and love it. Forends come in rifle, ML, and anything else you may choose to put on there (with some modification to the forend).
