:grin: :grin: Why did JDJ use a 225 Win. case for the 6.5, and a 444 Marlin for the 309?

I would think the 309 would create more chamber pressure with its heavy bullets? Then agin maybe there wouldn't enough bullet weight to burn all the powder??

Anybody have any answers?

I'm gonna get over my head real quick here but heregoes anyway. The increased volume is the key to keeping chamber pressure down to acceptable level and yet getting enough horsepower to push the heavier bullets at similar velocities. Clear as mud...right? FWIW, I have both and they work like a charm. GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt :-D :-D

I would really like to try a 6.5 and a 7 mm in a 444 Marlin case!!!! but I don't want to be called lefty!!

I'd look at the 6.5 JDJ#2, 7JDJ#2, 6.5 Super Bower or 7 Super Bower. All on the 307 case which is the same dia as the 444 case, just a little shorter.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You'll stretch the crap out of your frame long before you blow your shootin hand off if you work up the load gradually!

Who makes barrels in the Super Bower cal? I'm looking at the 7 Super Bower to take the place of my 7-30 Waters. Can the 7-30 Waters, 14" Contender barrel be re-chambered?

Hi Dave,
Are you thinking of buying one? What do you intend to hunt with it?
Last fall I worked up a new load for my 309JDJ using N160 and I'm pushing a Nosler 165 ballistic tip @ 2325 FPS. If you want more power maybe you should look at the Encore. I have a 6.5 Mini-Dreadnaught JDJ which is based on the 220 Swift case. I'm shooting a Nosler 120 Ballistic tip @ 2725 FPS. A fellow on www.handgunhunt.com (I think) told me he had JD cut the throat longer on a 260 Rem. barrel and he is pushing a 120 grainer @ 2800 FPS with lot less powder.

Sthe Super Bower cartridges are from Don Bower. The Super Bower and 6.5/7 JDJ#2 are nearly the same cartridge. I believe that a 7-30 can be rechambered to the 7 Super, mine is a 7TCU.

Here is the article that was in the NRA's magazine in the mid 90's. I do know quite a few people who have gone to Denver and shot with Don.

There's already a couple of 7mmX444 wildcats out there in addition to the 307 based ones. The 'smiths can give you the particulars on them. I know OTT and David White both chamber for one. I'm sure some of the others do too if you ask.
