I have been considering ordering a Henry Youth rifle for my grandsons to use. I finally had a look at one at a gun shop in Brewer Maine a few weeks ago and was very impressed until I tried the trigger. It was the worst I have ever tried. It was very creepy and jerky. Is this normal in this rifle? Anyone have experience with one?
I firmly believe in a single shot rifle for a young beginner. I let him try my 10/22 once and as soon as he realized he could just keep pulling the trigger, that was all he wanted to do. He didn't bother with sighting properly, just kept shooting until the mag was empty. When he shot my single shot rifle, he took his time and aimed. The trouble is, he can't shoot properly with the stock tucked under his arm.

The Henry Youth Rifle in question, is it the Mini Bolt?

No experience with a mini bolt, but I did buy a youth lever gun for my daughters. I figured that a single shot might not hold their interest long enough and didn't want to turn them loose with a semi for the reasons you described. The lever gun turned out to be just the ticket. They have to re-sight every shot but it's quick enough to keep them interested. Accuracy is really good and the trigger is pretty fair. It's pretty cheaply made if you look real close but functionally its pretty good. If I were to replace it I would probably get a marlin, but for the money it's pretty good. KN

By your inference to single-shots, I assume you are talking about the Mini-bolt? Stainless, with black plastic stock? If so, I can't offer any input.

Yes, the Mini Bolt with synthetic stock. I have a lever action Henry that worked very well at first but now, after several hundred rounds, has feed problems. The action doesn't cycle as smoothly as it did new.

I have a Mini Bolt that I bought for back packing and general woods loafing, the trigger is bad at first but after an application of Tri-flow and 2 boxes of CCI CB-long ammo to practise with it smoothed out. I found that a case that used to pack a popular brand of folding picnic chair makes a perfect carrying case. It also likes CCI "Mini" Mags (pardon the pun).
