Tikka T3 bedding screw torque
« on: March 21, 2004, 06:53:30 AM »
Does anyone on this board have the factory settings for the front and rear receiver screws?  When I took the action out of the stock, I tried to determine the setting with my torque wrench.  I came up with 78 in.lbs front and around 43 in. lbs for the rear; but this seems high for a rifle that has not been pillar/fiberglass bedded.  Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks.

I just emailed Tikka about this subject.I too was looking for torque specs and mailed them stateing I had tightened but wanted to know how tight. This is what they told me" You have done right. We do not give any torque values. As the bolts are tightened,
the barreled
action is sitting stadily in the stock and the performance is there. As the
barrel does not have a bearing point in front, the actual toque value is not
important." Regards Ruttinbuck

I too wondered this same question some time ago.  I have tightened the screw at about 2 or 3 different strengths (without a torque gauge) and the gun shot the same.  As such, I just guessed it at what I felt was "tight enough" and the accuracy was the same - great.
