Same here, I recently purchased a 25-06 and I remember the only model Remington offered in that caliber was the standard BDL.  If that's the one you're talking about I'd have to say it's a good rifle of typically high Remington quality.  I personally didn't care for the stock finish and iron sights so I went with a Winchester model 70.

For my tastes the mountain rifle would be a poor platform for a 25-06, all current mountain rifles sport 22" barrels.  To get the most out of the overbore 25-06 you need at least a 24" barrel in my opinion.  Other than the lost potential from the shorter barrel I can see no real down side to such a combination, should it exist.  I can only suppose that the rifle is either a standard BDL or a used gun that I am no familiar with.

I learned today that Remington made a special run of this rifle.  I did not find it on the Rem web site either.  The dealer said he bought new from another dealer best I remember.  I don't know how old the rifle is either.

Probably won't get it due to the 22 inch barrel.

Don't wory about the 22" barrel.  You won't lose enough velocity to worry about bu the missing 2" make it a MUCH handier rifle.  My .257 Roberts has a 22" barrel and I'm pushing 75g Hornady V-MAX at 3600fos and 115g Barnes TSX at 3000fps - the .25-06 should do that with ease even with a 22" barrel.

My point exactly, at the shorter barrel length you are just wasting the 25-06's potential, a 257 Roberts would be a better choice in that length IMO.  Don't get me wrong I LOVE the 25-06 and I really like the mountain rifle but I don't think that they are the ideal pairing.  If a mountain rifle makes it into my collection it will most likely be a short action with a smaller capacity case such as the 257 Roberts (you listening Remington?), a 260, a 7mm-08 or even a 308.

The 25-06 will work, and work well in that rifle, if you like both then by all means pick it up.  Just not MY particular taste, buy what suits YOU not me.  You asked for negatives and that is really the only one I can come up with.  Many would agree that it is more of a nitpick than a negative.  Rifles choice is often a matter of personal taste, this is a perfect example.

I'm with coyote on this one, 2" won't make a difference, the deer won't know if he was shot with a 22" or 24" barrel, your splitting hairs. I have a mountian rifle in 280 Rem and it shoots great. From the box to range 139gr sst hornady light magnums 100yds 3 shots 3/8in. No smithing was done to this gun and I can't ask any more from Remington. I've taken deer with my 7mm Rem. mag Rem. model 700 24" barrel and a Win mod. 70 lightwieght in 280 rem. with a 22" barrel. 200 feet per sec difference  between the two. But the deer didn't notice the differce at all thats why I put the mag away. Buy it, it's a special run and will be worth alot more someday. I bought 2 673 guide guns from Remington in 243 last year they were a limited run of 500. Just my 2 cents.
squeeze it, don't pull it!!!!
